Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

You probably know this already judging from the photo that mossburg57 provided, but anyway the SSD in his laptop is a Samsung PM981.

Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

Back was super simple to take off, but my SSD appears to be some off-branded Union Memory SSD.  I went to the website on the label, www.unionmemory.com and it is all in Chinese

Hmm that is surprising actually. I thought Lenovo will use PM981 (or something similar performance wise) for their high end ThinkPad equipped with high capacity storage... Did you get the 1TB or 512GB version?

Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

That’s crazy.  How’s the performance so far?  I plan on switching out the ssd anyway but I still maintain it’s the best laptop ever made all things considered.  🧘🏾‍♂️😎

I plan to switch it out as well, so not too worried. But it sounds like maybe I didn't win the SSD lottery.

Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

Thank you!

The SODIMM configuration is actually selectable on the EU site, and both options (2x8 or 1x16) cost the same. There is a tradeoff, since two DIMMs running in dual-channel mode are faster. However, if you plan to upgrade later, or maybe get a cheaper 2nd SODIMM from Crucial or Amazon right now, then 1x16 is obviously better. Not sure what sort of perfomance difference dual-channel makes. Probably not that much.

Actually, according to this video, dual-channel makes a significant difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_aPaj5QkmM

Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

As far as how the performance is of the Union Memory Drive, it scored a 14,853 on Passmark, which appears to put it in the same relative range of the Samsung PM961?

Re: Why there is still no review on X1 Extreme?

That's not bad at least. I know you will replace your SSD eventually, but you could try to use CrystalDiskMark to compares read and write speed further more Smiley Very Happy
