Wifi card upgrade options for X1 Carbon? NGFF, SFF, HMC? WP2?

Does anyone know what options are available for WiFi card upgrade? The X1 Carbon I have has slots for a HMC and one other slot. Is this other slot for SFF cards or maybe its a Mini PCIe card? What card will fit this other slot? Also, when I try to install WP2 HMC card the grey radio anttena is not long enough to reach, its short about a quarter of an inch. What am I supposed to do!! I need to get this NGFF WP2 or this HMC WP2 card into this machine, but it doesn't seem possible. Sheesh how could they short the radio anttena...now you can't even use the HMC slot!

Please. If anyone knows I rly need help.

Thanks!

Re: Wifi card upgrade options for X1 Carbon? NGFF, SFF, HMC? WP2?

the X1 Carbon wifi mPCIe uses a proprietary standard, it is not a regular full or half size mPCIe card.

The WWAN slot is a half height mPCIe, but it doesn't support wireless card.

The HMC card will fit in the other slot so why wouldn't it work? I guess this slot would be for WiMAX yes? Is there some place I can see what cards will fit into this system the X1 Carbon? Thanks Jin Li

really? It sounds very strange. Look at X1C FRU bom. There are regular wlan cards for 2013' laptops line here:

60Y3195 - 6250 WiMax

60Y3233 - 6300 WLAN
60Y3247 - FXC 11WLAN
60Y3249 - LTN 11WLAN
60Y3253 - TP 22 WLAN

60Y3295 - Marble Peak

"Marble Peak" is Intel 2200.

Yes, this list is for "X1C 2nd Gen" models (MT 3444, 3448, 3460) whereas 04W3769 - Intel SFF 2x2 11abgn WLAN Card - was in that list for the 1st X1C models in last year.

Yes, it is strange.  I am somewhat new to the terminology and such, I've been installing various wifi cards into various systems for about 6 months now and the new style of card in the X1 touch I haven't seen before, not even sure what to call it, maybe its a sff, or Mini pcie or whatever. I will take it apart today and post a few screens to show what I am seeing and hopefully get some direction on what I can do. Thanks x220forme Smiley Happy

Here is what the Intel 6205 wireless card looks like in the X1 Carbon first generation. The empty slot next to it is for the WWAN card.

Re: Wifi card upgrade options for X1 Carbon? NGFF, SFF, HMC? WP2?

waool2015,

no chance because of:
1. wlan slot form factor (proprietary)
2. laptop approved wireless device white list

Re: Wifi card upgrade options for X1 Carbon? NGFF, SFF, HMC? WP2?

Unfortunately, again no chance. That upgrade needs certification of set "laptop+new card" in a lot of organizations, it's very expensive process. Note, x1с is a bit outdated model.
