Will NVMe M.2 SSD be supported on Thinkpad x1 Carbon 3rd Generation (2015 model 20BS)?

2016-05-19, 21:07 PM

It's interesting to see that Lenovo updated their storage test and PCI Express test programs for Thinkpad X1 Carbon 3rd gen on 4/11/2016 including changes of "ADD: Storage - NVMe". Hope that is a sign for future NVMe SSD support.

It's been confirmed before that 3Rd gen x1 won't support NVME due to 1. PCie slot is 2.0 and motherboard has no NVME chip/component on the motherboard to handle NVMe function or something and that etc Samsung 950 has PCie 3.0 interface and NVMe function so it will still be a No mostlikely due to motherboards for 3Rd gen x1 is missing these stuff.
