Only the MC 7700 and MC7750 are supported for the X220 at this time for the US 4G market.  I'd guess that support for other versions in future will depend on the size of the potential 4G LTE markets.

At this stage of global 4G LTE deployment, support for a particular implementations is generally somewhat more than just having support for specific bands, so there is no gurantee that a MC7710 would actually work with your 4G carrier(s) in Hong Kong.

For instance, 4G LTE in the 700Mz band (where most of the global 4G action is eventually likely  to settle once analogue TV is switched off) will be in different segements of the 700MHz band is differing regions of the world.

Cheers,

Bill

Re: Will X230 OFFCIALLY SUPPORT AirPrime MC7710?

Lets face the facts

1. LTE networks are already available in Germany and Norway etc. It is well standardized.

2. There is already WWAN module Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7710 LTE/HSPA+

3. The module is already equipped in other brand notebooks currently available in Europe

4. The module supports all existing frequencies used in Europe (and very likely other reqions like HK)

The only Lenovo task asked for is to whitelist the module in BIOS (yes, it needs some FCC testing) and provide Lenovo branded version of the card and drivers for it. The same way the other brand company already did.

The Lenovo resistance to do this is really impressive Smiley Frustrated

Implementations are not at all well standardised, and interoperability between actual LTE implementations is currently very low.

Support for a frequency band does not means that a card will work with any individual carrier's implementation at this point in time, for a whole host of reaons.

If you really want to waste your money chasing LTE on the a basis of presumed interoperability, then go for it with one of those unamed other brands!

Great thanks for the replies.

I think all I can do now is just wait.
