I just bought an "almost new" x270 that had Linux on it but supposedly also has a Windows 10 license. I tried installing both Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro, and in both cases windows would not activate. I did not enter the key during the installation, since I don't have it. Once Windows is installed and I try to activate I get a following error message: "Activation failed because this device does not have a valid digital entitlement or product key. Error code 0x803F7001"
So I think either the seller misled me and there is no Windows license affilited with this machine, or it fails to pull it from BIOS for some reason. Is there a way to find out for sure? Who should I be asking - Lenovo or Microsoft?

Thanks for the info, by looking at parts lookup your system is not shipped with OS license. It's a DOS based system i.e, reason Windows is not getting activated.
