Win8 -bluetooth stops working :(

2012-11-08, 11:34 AM

X220 4287-sg2W8 64bit

bluetooth not working (and unable to install - error: access denied)

seems that it was working for few days (maybe using some W8 default driver).  But yesterday happened two things: I tried Nokia Suite 3.6.36 for my Nokia N8- it synchronized Nokia and Outlook via bluetooth successfully, after some time was low battery on my Lenovo Blue tooth laser mouse. After I changed battery in mouse I cannot connect it.  And saw "unknown device" in device manager.

Windows update wanted  to install  (and device manager too ) Broadcom Corporation driver update for ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 but attempts  ends  with "access denied".

I tried to uninstall Nokia Suite, I temporarily uninstalled Kaspersky IS, I tried to install some generic BT drivers from MS in device manager menu,  Lenovo Windows 7 blue tooth driver Version: 6.5.1.2700 (Windows 8 does not like this driver), but nothing helped- "unable to install access denied".

Thank you for any advice, regards, Jiri Cvrk

Not solved yet, I realy need your help :

I am adding events from device manager:

I had to translate it...

BEFORE - working BT:

service adding  BTHUSB ID  USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 status 0.

service adding BTHPORT ID USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 ended-status 0.

drivers management ended  installation bth.inf_amd64_f7dbb83b81a21f06\bth.inf for ID  USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 - status: 0x0.

NOW BT not working:

drivers management ended  adding of service BTHUSB ID USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 status: 0.

drivers management ended installation of driver bcbtums-win7x64-brcm.inf_amd64_c5e658ef0f047579\bcbtums-win7x64-brcm.inf ID  USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 status: 0x5.

drivers management ended installation of service BcmBtRSupport ID USB\VID_0A5C&PID_217F\EC55F9FEFB59 status: 5.

seems, that like new "driver" is installed over all old ones that are not completely uninstalled ... :(

I reinstalled, and X220 is working fine with MS generic bluetooth driver. But this Window update is waiting... It corrupts my configuration without way back.

The buttom reply by Michael Geary in This article helps me with the same problem, really useful!

It says:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have to run the psexec command in an administrator command prompt.

Here's the complete procedure I just followed:

  1. Download psexec from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649.aspx.
  2. Open a command prompt in Administrator mode (hit the Windows key, type cmd.exe, right-click the cmd tile and click Run as Administrator).
  3. Run psexec.exe -i -s regedit.exe
  4. In the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT\parameters.
  5. Right click the parameters key and select Permissions.
  6. Select Administrators in the list.
  7. If Special Permissions is checked but Full Control is not, that's the problem. Click Full Control. It will automatically check Read and uncheck Special Permissions.
  8. Click OK.
  9. You may need to repeat steps 5-8 for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BTHPORT (the parent of the parameters key). This was already set OK on my machine, with Full Control and Read checked.
  10. Close regedit and the command prompt, and run Windows Update again. It should install the Bluetooth update that was giving the "access is denied error".

Be very careful with regedit, even more careful than usual. You are running it under the Local System account, which has even more power than an Administrator account.

Re: Win8 -bluetooth stops working :(

Ten minutes after plugging in my new T440S with Lenovo bluetooth Mouse, it is operating erratically. After reading two years of complaints with no real solutions on the forum it doesn't appear to effect enough users for Lenovo to fix the problem.. Maybe I'll wait until I've owned the laptop 12 hours before I jump into editing the registry. Or maybe not. Thought this mouse would save me a USB port but a generic $20 wireless mouse has served me just fine. Welcome to Lenovo!
