Wireless Issue with X100e and Win7 Enterprise

2010-01-20, 17:32 PM

We are the proud new owners of many X100e notebooks that we are distributing to our employees.  As these shipped with Win7 Home Premium we are required to install Win7 Enterprise on all.  We are experiencing an issue with the wireless drivers we have downloaded from the Lenovo site.  While the drivers installed correctly, show no warning or error messages the unit will not connect wirelessly.  It sees our wireless network fine, allows you to select the network, but then tells us it is unable to connect - would you like to trouble-shoot.  Any suggestions on how we can get the wireless NIC to connect?  Any step we may have missed?

Thanks.

Need some more details...

32 or 64 bit Win 7 Enterprise?

Are you using Access Connections?

What version of driver is installed?

Was the WLAN driver installed via Setup.exe and not an INF install?

Did also install Hotkeys, Power Management drivers and such as well?

What encryption are you using?  (WEP, WPA/TKIP, WPA2/AES)

What authentication are you using? (PSK, PEAP, TLS, etc...)

Will they connect to other wireless networks?  (like at home or a hotspot?)

We are using 32 bit OS

Not Access connections. Had to do a clean new install of win7 enterprise

xxxx11ww direct from the lenovo site  ... setup

Nothing else installed yet, just that

Open network (outside our domain)(multiple open) or secured, neither worked

Re: Wireless Issue with X100e and Win7 Enterprise

I can add some information...maybe it helps.I know nothing about the X100e (other than internet talk), if it has a Wi-Fi "on-off" switch externally  read on...

I installed Win 7 pro on my X60 T, since day one I have weird problems with the WiFi (with or without Access Connections installed). Basically it will tell me that an "access point" is in range and if I want to connect, if I tell it yes it seems to want to connect and then I get an error!!!(same error as you)

If I do an Fn+F5 (this brings up the Wi-Fi "on-off" app) I can see that per the software the "side switch" is "off", however it is clicked to the "on" position!!! When I click on the application to turn the "Wi-Fi" card on, it lights up(on the screen app) and tells me that the card is "on", however the "switch" portion still shows as "off". Everything will act as if the card is on, however it WILL NOT CONNECT. I also get no activity light from the "Wi-Fi" link indicator. Flicking the "switch" on the side of the machine, or using the app. will do NOTHING to remedy the situation.

How I got it to work:

Make sure that the "switch" is on, make sure that the "screen app" shows the Wi-Fi card as "on" (the on screen button will light up green). SHUT DOWN the machine (a reboot will not work for me), start the machine back up and the Wi-Fi link light should light up green and should be able to connect.

Again, not sure what options you get with the X100e...hope this helps!

FWIW: I am sure there are MANY bugs to work out, both from the Microsoft and Lenovo side before Win 7 performs 100%

Hmm..  the current driver is build 15, not 11, so maybe older driver.

Here is the driver:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73701

And make sure that Power Manager driver

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG

and Hotkeys are installed.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-74261

Then use Fn+F5 and make sure can turn the WLAN radio on and off. (Expand individual controls)

If not, then that may be part of the problem, try a uninstall, reboot, reinstall driver.

The issue was resolved by installing Access Connections for Win7.  We will also install the more current drivers.  Thanks!

I am having a ton of wireless connectivity problems as well. I don't think the latest drivers or manager fix the problems.

Alas, this problem doesn't seem to be fully addressed with Access Connections and updated drivers.  However, it is interesting that we have problems with some X100s and not with others.  Anybody have new info?

Re: Wireless Issue with X100e and Win7 Enterprise

Hi, I just got X100e with Win 7 Pro preinstalled. Wifi worked fine. I installed all needed programs and made the mistake of updating drivers for the device using Lenovos built in dirver update tool. It looked a bit suspicious that while offering driver upadate for wireless it said that no preovious driver was installed altough I was connected to Internet using the very same wireless card. After the driver update I restarted the computer and ever since I havent got the wireless working. It sais to check wether the wireless switch is on. The software switch works fine. But It can't see any networks. Ive tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall but no help. I'm kind of leanin towards system restore.
