I am having the same issue - I can only connect @ 144Mbps - yet my other X61 with a linksys card connects @ 300Mbps - is it my settings?

I have a very recent lenovo x61 tablet, with intel wireless wifi link 4965agn, my router is a
Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link WRT350N
My connection is always 54 mbps, I am not even sure if it gets that fast, but the connections says it is 54 mbps, so that is the maximum speed
I understand the router has several frequencies, so that slower a or g wifi systems do not bog down the speed. Maybe the x61 connects on the wrong frequency?
I tried to play with the settings in modem properties,

Your router also defines at which speed you can connect, your wireless card can only connect at the maximum speed the router allows.
G - 54mbits
G+ - 100mbits(?)
N - 300mbits
If you have an older G router you will not be able to get higher speeds from it than 54mbits/s. A LAN card can never connect on the wrong frequency but always connects on the fastest that both card and router allow.
Please also note that the further away you are from your router the slower the connection speed will be. For example standing next to a 300m/bit router will yeild something like 290m/bits per second, then it looks something like this:
3 feet 6 feet 1 wall 2 walls different story
280 250 150 100 30 m/bits per second
So getting 100 or 110 m/bit connection wirelessly is nothing strange.

I am close enough to the router. One thin wall, very short distance.
Signal strength very strong
Now one interesting fact. I put the router on "N only", and there was no more connection
Maybe I need to upgrade the wireless driver on my x61? (How?)
or some settings are wrong? or the N protocols don't match?
All indicates that the connection is G only (how can I be sure?)
