Yes, I enabled it and it works very well.  The two red IR cameras pulse quickly for a few seconds and then voilá, you're logged in.  No, I don't think you can use it for UAC.  I still have to click to grant permission for apps that are installing or making changes.

I've been waiting for the IR camera option for the U.S. for a while now so I can order a 2017 X1 but it still doesn't show.  So disappointing!  I'm getting ready to pull a trigger on the new Surface notebook if Lenovo doesn't offer the option soon because I absolutely love the Windows Hello login option.

Can't understand why Lenovo is offering the IR camera on the X1 in other markets but not in the U.S.!

Be patient! Surface notebook is a heavy bit of kit and has had numerous issues.

I also have a Thinkpad X1 carbon 5th Gen, and when I first set it up, I had a choice of password, PIN, or fingerprint sign on and all worked well.  After a couple of months, the sound deteriorated and Lenovo sent a technician to replace a board.  Now, I no longer have any choice but to sign in with a password.  The PIN option no longer works, and the fingerprint option doesn't even appear as a choice.  Is this due to the board, or is there some way to re-enable the functionality I used to have?

After a system board change, you need to remove and redo windows hello.  In the BIOS under security/fingerprint, enable predesktop authentication and reset fingerprint data
