Re: X1 5th gen thinkpad trackpoint

So i have now had the x1 Carbon gen 5 for a few weeks.  Lack of a slightly rounded track point absolutly effects the precision and is a weakness.   I dont understand why they wont come out with a software fix and make a simple rounded trackpoint tip as they have in the past.....

So I've had my X1C 5th gen for about 8 months and just replaced the original trackpoint with a fresh one (part number 4XH0L55146). The original was gray and cleaning didn't brighten it up. And I'm happy to say that the new one is much more sensitive! In fact, I would venture to say that it is sensitive enough!

I knew these are consumables, but perhaps we should think of them as more consumable than just replace it when it looks gross - replace it when it feels sluggish.

If only it were that simple, but replacing the only trackpoint Lenovo now sells with a new, clean version of the same cannot improve the basic problems: 1. lack of sufficient sensitivity in the whole trackpoint mechanism and 2. tragic absence of the soft rim variant that gives the user more leverage than the other kinds.

I made My soft rim by 3D-printing.

Well said, its a good laptop but the reduced track point sensitivity in a real product weakness!

@saoto28   Awesome!  Can I ask which 3D printing service you used? The ones I've looked at don't have that material...

Re: X1 5th gen thinkpad trackpoint

I wholehartedly agree, my X1 Yoga 1 gen Trackpoint has an unusable low sensitivity. My own theory is, that the flatness ambition of X1 crowded out the old physical geometry of the earlier Trackpoint of pre X1, which was perfect. Does anyone have pre X1 (like x270), win 10, and are still able to max sensitivity - perhaps through regedit or something? So I wonder if it is a HW or SW issue, or perhaps both?

Anyway, Lenovo is on a risky path here, at least with yours truly.

I fixed the sesitivity issue by putting a little rubber piece inside the knob. That increased the height of the trackpoint knob and solved the sesitivty issue. Really disappointing that they replace a perfectly working trackpoint (X230 in my case) with this one and do not even bother to fix the problem.

This whole issue could also be fixed with ALLOWING US TO ADJUST SENSITIVITY IN THE TRACKPOINT SETTINGS!

Why was the option removed???
