You can edit the mouse acceleration curve of Windows.

Re: X1 5th gen thinkpad trackpoint

Partial solution

Upgrading from X220 to X1 5th Gen was a huge dissappointment with the max trackpoint speed, even with all the settings listed in this thread maximised + attempted registry editing etc.. My finger is basically busted even with the highest possible speed. And ofcourse to non-power users this speed is much too fast, but not for me.

My best work-arounds are:

1. Buy new trackpoint nubs from Amazon -> better friction

2. Remove the trackpoint nub, insert a tiny amount of rolled-up paper in the hole so that you get a slight raise of the nub. This gives more leverage and thus faster.

3. Work with smaller resolution (I use this only in an emergency when the finger gets sore)

As mentioned elsewhere on the forum.  You might try one of these:  https://www.etsy.com/search?q=softrim

(If you do, please report back with your results.)

I can verify that I  bought all of the ones for sale and none of them worked properly with the T25 Thinkpad Anniversary Edition

How hard is it for Lenovo to put back the sensitivity option???

I own an X1 1st Gen and X1 5th Gen. Always frustrating to use the good 1st and then have to smash the 5th around. The paper trick does actually make a difference. Doesn't totally fix it, but helps more than I thought it would.

Pics below to compare. Should be obvious, but 1st get on the left, 5th on the right. (and yeah, I need to clean my palm rest)

Also - who else HATES when some smarmy reviewer is like "I don't know anyone in the whole universe who has ever used a trackpoint" ... shuttup noob.

After I posted I realized I didn't make the point that the pics show: Not only is leverage hurt (hence paper trick helping) but we're talking about a whole physically different bit of hardware. This likely ISN'T a software issue (or not a software only issue.) Lenovo went to a different part and the new one sucks.

I want to say that the short trackpoint cap(the super low profile) is not so bad, if the cap is the soft rim type.

Read other forums online.  The problem is mentioned by many.  I've placed many support calls to Lenovo, and there is no solution.  I note that Lenovo brought the sensitivity setting back in the 7th gen x1.

I think Lenovo should write a patch for other versions of the x1 where they removed the feature.  And I also think they should punch in the face, the idiot who decided to "slow down" the trackpoint so that it would be more user friendly.  is that seriously what they thought?  "duh...let's put the brakes on the trackpoint and people will like it better.  now let's make it smart and make the trackpoint slow down even more while the user is gliding it over document titles in a folder, in case they are too stupid for their fingers and they move the mouse too fast."  it actually does that now.

The only reason any of us buy Lenovos is for the trackpoint.  Otherwise we would go to the competitors.  Amazing, then, that Lenovo consistently screws it up.  After railing against the decline of the trackpoint in X1s, from about gen 4 and on, finally in gen 7 they did it right and introduced a sensitivity adjustment, the ELAN trackpoint for Lenovo, which had this adjustment.  That worked fine for gen 7 of the X1s, but now in gen 8, which still has the ELAN adjustment, they are back to square zero.  Yes, you can adjust it, but NO the adjustment makes almost no difference, since the trackpoint goes from super-stiff to slightly less stiff, but still much TOO stiff.  What don't they get about making the trackpoint easy to move?  What is the downside of making it super sensitive?  Anyone who doesn't want that can just set the setting for mid-way.  I don't get it.
