Re: X1 6 gen HDR - Is the panel 8 bit (reported by EDID) or 12 bit (required by Dolby Vision)?

Well, iam not from Lenovo and dont know their possibilities, but you cant increase colorrange or add FRC with a Firmwareupdate. For me it looks like Lenovo dont know by theirself how to reach the advertised features. I will wait a little bit, if this state will not change i will return the device. Iam from europe (germany) and here i can easy return device which dont own the advertised and payed features. I hope Lenovo will surprise me, but i dont think so. I use Lenovo for years, and in some cases they are just ignoring a known problem.

Take a look at this link here...

http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/12/11/versa-hdr-test-specification-notebooks/

Even with 8bit a Notebook Display can be an HDR display.

For Dolby vision... there should also be an spec available somewhere which should clear up things.

My Lenovo with the Dolby Vision screen came shipped with Windows version 1709 (Fall Creators).

After installing the .inf Colour Profile file, I could turn on 'HDR' under Settings -> Apps -> Video Playback. Prior to installing the Colour Profile, this was disabled as it said my PC does not have a HDR display.

I can now play YouTube HDR videos via MS Edge browser.

And again, its fake HDR. You can activate this option even on the X1 Yoga from 2017 which dont have a HDR Display, or with every Monitor which have more than 300cd/m².

Its still the same situation, as long as Windows output to Panel is not 10 bit (even if Panel is output only 8bit) you cant have any HDR Content.

Why is it I couldn't activate this before applying the .INF file?

Because the inf file told windows more properties from the display (Color and Brightness). Like i said, with the spring update you can even activate this HDR option on the old X1 Yoga from 2017. Its just an option from Microsoft to get best results with HDR content on SDR Displays.  So no HDR for real.

Ok, but still the same situation. We will see how Lenovo will explain that, DolbyVision update is anounced too. We will see. At the moment its just a big hoax.

Hi,

So I've realised that playing HDR videos on YouTube via Edge is only possible when my X1 Carbon with DV screen is plugged into external USB-C power. As soon as I run it on the internal battery, HDR disappears from the list of resolutions.

Why does this happen?

Thanks.
