Re:X1 6th Gen. fingerprint reader not working, 4th repair in 2 weeks

2021-05-20, 14:58 PM

I also have a similar issue with fingerprints with my X1 tablet Gen 3

Suddenly it didn't work out. So I try to remove my fingerprint at the setup panel and try to add a new finger scan. However, it also didn't work out though I already follow every instruction.

How am I supposed to do?

If you already tried all the troubleshooting steps mentioned earlier, I suggest that you contact the tech support for your region.

They would need to investigate, perhaps check each physical component, which can only be done thru the service center

Take care

How long are you willing to play this game?

You are absolutley right in saying this is not your fault nor your responsibility. Totally agreed!

Now think again what your options are.

I still suggest (as in my previous post) you enforce a full replacement for a brandnew machine.

3 strikes and Repair/Service is out of the game.

Call them, demand the backoffice and:

Insist, insist and oh.... insist.

Worked for me.

I am working on a solution. So far I can’t share any new information. I will let you know as soon I have relevant information.

Edit: The „funny“ thing is that I asked for a new device, about 2-3 times they offered me that if a repair will fail again, they will offer me another solution (device replacement). So far it didn’t happen, they ask me to send the device back to a lab where they will try to fix it (it should take them 14 days).

@dbao

Various technicians

+BackOffice

+Lenovo support staff

+My own experience (10 years+ ThinkPads + did my own repairs)

+ some general knowledge in my country's law (no I'm not located in the US soley nor is seemingly Butterfliege).

Don't try to correct me (again)...

See there's a replacement option. But it's the last thing they do (which is understandable because > money)

You are the one to put a hold on these repair attempts by absolutely demanding a new machine. Tell them that you loose time, money and nerves.

I respect your patience but I don't understand it.

Because the process of diagnose is part of life long learning, and many people enjoy it.  There is more than a laptop. I believe for the same reason, you, he and I come here.

Sure, but part of learning also is that (at least my) lifetime is limited.

Part of learning is also getting to a quick solution sometimes (after, much much learning before, Been there done that, believe me :) )

ThinkPads are business machines after all aren't they?

I bought ThinkPads for me and my clients and chose them over other manufacturers for a reason.

For a while this reason was time=money. Now it's my inner balance of not having to deal with sh*t any longer than nescessary.

That said I'd like to hack bioses as a hobby... ;)

Cheers

Quick update.

Lenovo Germany (not support) called me today: "Under no circumstances you will receive a replacement device"...

So it's the 7th repair and they want to continue repairing it. Lenovo is a joke, I have never experienced such bad service!
