X1 7th gen with Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen. 2 - not enough power.

I have a X1 7th (20QD) and a 40AN0135CH Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen. 2. From time to time when I plug it into the docking station a message pops up saying that the dock does not provide enough power to charge, but it's the provided 135W charger hooked on to it. I can then shut down the laptop, press the reset button on the lower side of the device for 10s, denn boot up again and it works fine. What's a fix for that annoying behavior? I bought into the expensive lenovo ecosystem so I dont have to deal with annoying stuff like that, but here we are...
Cheers!

Hi @sfluck!

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Try to download the specific driver for ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen, and download the Firmware for Windows 10 (64-bit) directly from our support website. Take note the Thunderbolt firmware in this dock can only be updated through a connected notebook and ensure the dock cable is connected to the proper Thunderbolt Type-C port when updating dock firmware.

Regards,

Re: X1 7th gen with Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen. 2 - not enough power.

Hi

I need to pick up here again. I've updated the Firmware of the Dock as per your instruction, and it worked fine for some time. However, I still get weird behavior in combination with the Dock. Two days ago, when I plugged the X1 into the dock, it just didnt want to connect, I got it to connect by un- and replugging a couple of times. At some point though, it displayed that no battery was connected, the windows icon displayed 255% of battery left. When I went home, I shut down the laptop and left it in my bag. The next day, I used my laptop on battery, and the lenovo vantage symbol displayed a battery fill status of about 80%, the windows icon displayed an x saying no battery detected. I didnt use the laptop extensively, I put it into energy saver mode at about 70%. Some hours later in the evening I wanted to use it again, it only had 5% of battery left. I do that a lot, and generally it loses not that much in such a short time... I'm extremely annoyed, especially because my old T440p absolutely worked flawlessly.

any advice?

Re: X1 7th gen with Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen. 2 - not enough power.

Right now the issues persist also when not in conjunction with a dock. Closing the lid puts the device into energy save mode. When I want to reuse the laptop again an hour later, the battery is not detected and the vantage battery symbol sais that the battery voltage is wrong.

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
