X1 Build in camera freezes and displays just first frame

2019-10-23, 12:52 PM

Hey,

I work for Windows help desk and had X1 user where his camera when open was just stuck on the initial frame captured.

I've seen similar thread which is resolved but proposed solution won't work in this case. Solution there was: 1. roll back from 1903 to 1809 2. Create new local account and migrate all stuff to the new account.

Option 1 won't work as 1809 will show as non-compliant in our organisation, and number 2 is not an option as we can't use local account, only Azure AD Joined.

I've reinstall camera drivers, used one from Lenovo webiste. Updated BIOS drivers. All Windows updates done also.

Any suggestions what I could try next?

Thanks

Is there any crash logged in "view all problem reports" (just type that into start menu) that corresponds to the time that the problem happens?

Without any crash logged in Problem Reports, I don't have any idea.  I suggest that you ask Microsoft what the "Something went wrong" error code means.

Issue resolved.

Solution:

  • Press Windows key + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows Media Foundation\\Platform.
  • Right-click on the Platform folder and select New > DWORD.
  • Name it EnableFrameServerMode.
  • Right-click on the newly created value and select Modify.
  • Change its Value data to 0.
  • Do the same with HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WOW6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows Media Foundation\\Platform key.

Thank you.  I had tried everything else I had found on the Lenovo service site . . . . I even took my laptop in for service yesterday to only find out the Camera was working on their boot disk.  (I didn't take my disk in)  So I double down on my research and found your solution.

I uninstalled driver(Integrated Camera) from Device Manager and restarted windows, then camera started working again properly.

Camera Freezes on Thinkpad

But after LENOVO VANTAGE reinstalled Integrated Camera Driver, the problem started again...

I ended up Disabling Recommended Updates for while.
