Re: Just received XX Carbon Touch and....

Thanks for the info!  Glad I didn't try too hard to peel it off.

I've had the X1 for less than 24 hours and love it: a fantastic piece of engineering.  And thank you, both Tout1108G and Mark, for the help, I definitely appreciate it.

Re: X1 C Touch: Screen - protective plastic sheet affixed to it?

2013-01-06, 21:54 PM

I bougth the Yoga and was wery satified with the screen, but delivered it back due to high fan noise.

Now i am considering to get the X1 Touch. X1 with CPU I7 and 8 gb ram cost over $3500 in Norway.

If it just have a plastic sheet to protect the screen, Il starting to loose faith in Lenovo as a high end producer.

Dont't the X1 touch have gorilla glas like the Yoga?

If it had Gorilla Glass, it would advertised at http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/tech-specs/laptop/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-touch/ or at http://www.lenovo.com/products/us/laptop/thinkpad/x-series/x1-carbon-touch/
It was definitely touted on the original X1.  See http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/system_data/x1_tech_specs.pdf

What is the function of this screen plastic sheet cover? Anti-Glare? Screen Protection?

How scratch resistant is it?

If it do scratches; is it replaceable?

Is it easy to do (easy to remove/apply)? user-replaceable or service-tech replaceable? on-site or depot?

Re: X1 C Touch: Screen - protective plastic sheet affixed to it?

I just opened my own X1 Carbon Touch and was immediately turned off by the screen. My first reaction was that the resolution was off or something like that, but upon further inspection I came to the same conclusion, that they have added a protective film which distorts the light. After some googleing I found this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Protective-film-layer-on-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-Touch-models/ta-p/974399 which I guess is based on this discussion. I was very disappointed that the film should not be taken off since the screen doesn't look clear but considerably worse than my X300. My iPhone was delivered with the same type of film and looked perfect after I peeled it off, so I hope we'll find a way to get rid. Doing any kind of coding or writing with a white background is out of the question since the distortions from the film is hard to look at for any longer period of time.

PS: The machine seems great with respect to every aspect except the blury screen, which is why it's so unfortunately that I let such a small thing as a plastic film annoy me.

What is the story on this film?  Could someone from Lenovo clarify what it is for? Is it only for protection and has no other technical function?

There was some thoughts about the screen in this review (Not touch). Looks like the gorilla glas has been sacrificed for weight benefits

I absolutely agree with you Uknowl. I sold a MBP Retina and bought the X1 Touch. I cannot believe how bad the screen is with the protective film. We should have the option to remove this film. I actually was about to return the machine but have been thinking twice.

Does the X1CT have a screen cover on it? Maybe a stupid question...

2013-02-08, 16:06 PM

Got my X1 today and the screen isn't super clear (common complaint from what I've read).  One thing I cant tell if the screen has a plastic protection over it or if that's part of the screen itself?

Mainly asking if there is a plastic cover over the screen (that is cut pretty close to each edge) or that is simply there for shipment and I'm supposed to pull it off.  No easy pull tabs if that's the case.

Like I said, I don't want to pick it with my finger nail if that's simply supposed to be there to help protect the screen and can't be removed????

You guys just nailed something that has been talked about in many forums:  The screen door effect on the X1CT is not really about the quality of the LCD itself, but is far more likely the result of the screen protector!

The screen door effect on my X1CT is so bad that I might not be able to keep this otherwise amazing laptop.  I need to find out soon if the screen protector can be exchanged for a clear/glossy one... because otherwise I think I might have to return this laptop.  I just can't see myself adjusting to the SDE on all of these websites with white backgrounds!

Agh!  Lenovo... what have you done???
