Re: X1 C Touch: Screen - protective plastic sheet affixed to it?

2013-02-11, 20:37 PM

I purchased the X1 Carbon touch as well and am very disapointed in the screen quaility... Great over all design and execution but the screen is bad enough I'm going to have to move to another laptop.  Characters are blurry which makes it very difficult to use for extended periods of time.

Guys, I took it off.

It's a several-hour job. So you guys are right. It's not supposed to be removed.

The film is quite hard. It's teared into like 10 pieces. Also huge amount of glue left on the screen after the film is removed.

Since I believe the screen is some kind of plastic, I didn't use any chemicals in the whole process. Pure physical removal.

Lucky that I didn't destroy the screen.  It looks perfect now. The touch function works cool as before. I think the function of that film is just to prevent fingerprints.

Personally I don't recommend you to do this. It's really not easy.

I have the same problem with my screen.  new something wasn't right as I have a sony vaio with the same resolution and the sony vaio is quite sharper.  thye sent out a tecnician to replace the screen but they sent the wrong one and the technician screwed up and now my screen doesn't work at all.  lenovo says 4+ weeks to ship me a new computer or screen.

Pathetic.

If they plan on sending the same screen I am switching to a mac.  worst experience in delaing with a company.

Followed the lead and also removed the screen protector.

BEST THING to have done.....no more screen door effect.

This is how the X1 Carbon Touch should have shipped in the first place, put a 3M Privacy film in the box for those who want the screen door effect.

Take your time as it is not a quick thing, used a hair dryer to heat it slowly.

Any glue residue is easily cleaned with Windex leaving a perfect matte touch screen and functioning X1 Carbon Touch :)

Happy days.....was so close to sending this back after waiting the 2 months.

Recommend it to all who are patient

Going to remove it as well. Rather go through the careful process than to stare at the screen with this terrible fuzziness. Thanks for the tips on removal. Wish me luck! :-)

I'm also disapointed by the screen quality and want to remove this protective layer. Can anyone who removed it post some comparison photos. Is the screen still matt after removing and what's the differences in fingerprints on the screen?

It would be even better if some could document the process of the removing, would be a good help for everyone how wants to improve his X1CT.

Hope you all have also had success in a better screen after removing the anoying film.

I have just finished another one for a client but forgot to take pictures, but here is a brief step by step.

1. Restart the unit, and disable the battery from the Power section in the Bios. (Just to be safe).

2.Rotate the notbook 90 degrees clockwise, so you have the ThinkPad and X1 Carbon Logo's closest to you.

3.Open the notebook screen all the way so you now have the notebook flat.

4. Use a stanley knife or sharp blade to slowly lift the film from the corners.  Start with the edge from the X1 Carbon Logo.

5. Using your fingers slowly pull diagaonally till half way, now do the same from the edge to your right.

6. You should now have released the whole bottom edge closest to you.

7. Go and find a tube of Pringles and read the label (Once you start you cant stop). :)

8. Slowly start to roll the film upwards until you have completely removed it. (Dont worry amount the glue and miss it leaves behind, we will get to that).

9. Now you will have removed the film and looking at your screen and thinking what have I done, dont worry it gets better.

10.  You will see the glue bits left on your screen, dont worry as these easily comes off.  I used my fingers and thumbs to roll it.  It should easily make little balls which you can just pick up and off.

11. Once all the glue is removed, just give the screen a clean with some Windex

12. Plug you AC Adapter back in and press the power button.

13. Relax and enjoy your tube of Pringles and wonder why you didnt do this earlier.

Enjoy all
Regards
Rod

Does anybody have pictures of the screen (with any apps, or word) before the plastic was removed and after.

Just wonder what's the difference and whether it is worth doing
