Re: X1 C Touch: Screen - protective plastic sheet affixed to it?

2013-04-06, 22:33 PM

I also just peeled of the plastic of the screen.

Touch works as flawless as before and the image quality is now way better.

The disadvantage is that the screen gets somewhat more glossy, so if you often work outside this may be an issue for you.

Overall, I am now very happy with the result.

Took me around 1 hour incl. cleaning off the glue

ditto, just pealed it off, took 1 hour, 15min to remove the film and 45min for the glue.  The screen is much clearer now, but it does have a more glare.  I took photos of before and after and of the process and will post links to photos when I upload them in a bit.  Very simple to do!

on removing the film, just use an exacto blade on one corner (the one near the x1 carbon was easy, then use your fingers after that to pull up (not the blade), using fingers its easy to remove it, just go slow.  on removing the glue, it took a while but just made circles with my fingers to make little balls of glue, then used a little windex at the end to remove the final small particles.  let me know if any questions.

Jgalvin - if you get the chance to post those photos you'd be a hero: please do!

I just took delivery of my X1CT on Friday and I have to say (and I'm coming from Apple) everything except the screen door effect gets 5 stars. If there's a viable way of improving that then this machine could be near perfect. (Until, of course, they bring out the 1080p version :-)

No warranties are effected, checked with our Lenovo contact.

My company is a Lenovo Business partner, so double checked that before doing this ;)

Just posted this on the other thread.

Hi all, i've posted the pics of the before and after as well as pics of the process on my skydrive.  Take a look at the two pictures (before shot screen says 6:28, after shot the screen says 7:45), you can clearly see the improvement. Let me know if any questions or if you can not access the pictures.

James - thanks so much! Good shots - you can clearly see the difference.

On the road just now but I am going to have to do this myself as soon as I get home!

Hi All

Before you all go ripping the so called protective layer off your system I would check with your local Lenovo Support as in my mind this will void your warranty . The fact this is glued on so well shows its not something that was designed to be removed .

If its not Broken LEAVE IT ALONE

All,

This discussion is now causing some concern and I would like to clarify the Lenovo position is that the film is NOT intended to be removed as it is there to provide anti-glare and protective capabilities to the LCD.

Regardless of 3rd party opinions offered, we do not support removal of this film.

If you remove it for personal reasons, you do so at your own risk and you may affect the warranty of your LCD.

We also published a KB article on this.

Thanks

Mark
