X1 Carbon 2014 - USB Hub wake up

2014-04-07, 15:25 PM

I'm very happy with my new X1, but there is one annoying thing at the moment: at home I have connected a nice 27-inch display, a keyboard and a mouse, and of course the notebook is closed, everything is fine with this setup. The mouse and the keyboard are connected with an USB hub (with extra power).

After some time of not using the notebook it will fell into the sleep mode, which is pretty obvious and ok, but it cannot be turned on with the keyboard (through the USB hub); without USB hub it works well.

Is there anything I can do? (Instead of open the notebook every time)

Don't allow the computer to go into sleep mode - control panel -> power options-> change plan options -> put the computer to sleep ->never.

Sorry for the late response, but no, this is not a solution which I can work with.

I don't want to turn off the auto-sleep and other power saving features, instead I want that my hardware is working the way it should. And the problem seems to be the combination of the USB-Hub and the laptop; as long as I don't use the USB-Hub everything is they way it should be.

Check under USB devices in device manager for your Hub(most likely "Generic usb hub"), then set the power settings to "allow this device to wake the computer" This might help allow devices attached to the hub to wake the machine.

The option was not available, on none of the listed USB Hubs.

In the meantime I switched to a mouse with transmitter attached to the notebook, and clicking on the mouse did the job of waking up the notebook.
