Re: X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (2014) Screen upgrade

2017-02-11, 13:02 PM

After digging a bit more I found the following screen:

http://www.panelook.com/B140HAN01.7_AUO_14.0_LCM_overview_28074.html

(from 4th gen X1 Carbon, it's FHD IPS)

I also found my current screen in my laptop, which is this one:

http://www.panelook.com/B140RTN03.0_AUO_14.0_LCM_overview_19559.html

(This is my current HD+ screen)

Now whats stopping me from ordering is the voltage values of these two screen, I can see in SPECS that the FHD one is drawing more power from the mobo. Also my current screen is using eDP (1 lane) and the new one has eDP (2 lane). Both uses 30 pin connector. I seriously need some expert help here... I'm starting to think that this wont work, if not someone tell me the display cable I already have in my pc supports 1 and 2 lane connection.

Thanks a lot for all answers, I really appreciate it!

I just bought a gen 2 x1 Carbon with broken screen.

I ordered a 1600x900 replacement screen, but when I've installed it the resolution of the screen they have sent is actually 1920x1080 - so yes - the 1080P screen definitely works on my gen 2 laptop, and I'm quite happy the seller sent me this screen in error.

awesome, iv been trying to find someone else who has done this. I ordered a 1080p screen from the gen3 version of the x1. i have the gen 2 and I'm not sure if it will work or not. mainly because i don't know if my edp cable is 1 lane or 2 lane. do you know what type of cable your laptop has? if you feel comfortable with it, could you send me your laptops Serial number so i can see if it has the same cable as mine.

I'm not sure on lanes but it's 30 pin - it's not touchscreen. I'd guess they sent me the 1080p screen from the gen 3. Unfortunately I already fitted it so can't see model number, it was only when I booted I realised the resolution was different. My product number is 20A8S00C00.

Any update on your screen upgrade?

I've wondered which 1080p screen would work in my Gen2 as well. I'd settle for a 1600x900 IPS screen over this TN panel. Any part # would be great. My screen sucks. lol

Thanks

The upgrade worked for me but sadly I do not remember what the part number was or what site I bought it off of as it was a couple of years ago. It was a very odd screen replacement site
