X1 Carbon 3444 1st Gen WWAN setup

2015-05-18, 16:52 PM

Hi all,

Need help please.

I bought my X1 Carbon 3444 June last year. It seems like I do have a WWAN adapter as well as the antenna. Please see attached

I hope I am reading it correctly.

I have also downloaded the Ericson Driver.

I need to know what else i need to do to make this work. Other than obviously inserting a SIM card.

While you certainly have a two antenna line items, I'm not sure that they include connectivity for WWAN in addition to WLAN. From the file I linked, there is also a second pair of antennae line items:

04W3908  Antenna Kit WLAN/WWAN  WNC
04Y1462  Antenna Kit WLAN/WWAN  Yageo

Looking at page 86 of your hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x1_carbon_hmm_en_0b48811_04.pdf

the WWAN and WLAN antennae are separate, so a machine with both capabilities would have a total of 4 leads.

If you are comfortable opening up your machine, you could do a visual check by removing the keyboard/bezel assembly (see pages 61-62 & 66-67). If you machine only has the WLAN antennae, installing the WWAN antennae kit looks fairly complicated as it requires removing the LCD panel from the top lid.

Regarding sourcing either of the WWAN cards shown in the parts list:

04W3786  Ericsson H5321gw  WWAN Module
60Y3297  Ericsson H5321w   WWAN Module

you could try using the P/Ns here: http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=parts_r&catalogId=-840&storeId=260785&langId=-1

I'm not sure about international shipping, but there is a US toll-free number on that page if you wanted to try speaking with someone.

My apologies that I can't offer much more than this, but WWAN in ThinkPads is out of my area of experience. Other members may be able to offer more detailed info.

Hope this helps a bit, at least.

Regards.

Re: X1 Carbon 3444 1st Gen WWAN setup

Good day.

Using your image as a guide and looking at the Gen1 Carbon's FRU BOM:

http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x1_carbon_gen1_fru_bom_20141210.pdf

I'm not seeing any indication of a WWAN card in your machine.

From the file:

04W3769 = Intel SFF 2x2 11abgn WLAN Card

and

04Y1463 = Antenna Kit w/WLAN w/o WWAN WNC
04Y1464 = Antenna Kit w/WLAN w/o WWAN Yageo

Further searching on 04W3769 leads me to believe this is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2).

Is there another item on the list that you believe denotes a WWAN card?

Regards.

Hi,

As  said, it doesn't look like you have a WWAN card.  There are a pair of antenna components listed, but no card.

Using 3444CUU in the lookup tool, these are the stock specs:

ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 34xx) 3444CUU

i7-3667U(3.2GHz),8GB RAM,240GB Solid State Drive,14in 1600x900 Multitouch LCD,Intel HD Graphics,Intel 802.11agn wireless,1Gb Ethernet,UltraNav,Secure Chip,4c Li-Ion,Win8 Pro 64

[edit] The antenna components listed are not for the WWAN either :(

Thank you both for responding so swiftly.
Sarbin,
I thought the 04W3769 was the WWAN. But I trust you re right that it is not.
Am I correct in saying that it seems like I do have an antenna?
Do you perhaps know if I will beable to buy and Ericson WWAN adapter from the Lenovo SHop? Or where can I find one?
