X1 Carbon 3444- WWAN Option

2013-09-13, 15:39 PM

As stated my X1 is a model 3444 don't have it in front of me for final sequence of model number. It has the i7 3667U processor with the 256gb SSD. Can a WWAN card be installed in this model to allow Mobile Broadband thru my ATT carrier?

Enter the entire model number into the QUICK PATH, this will say whether you machine is WWAN upgradeable or not. If it is, then you have the 2 WWAN antenna, and all you need is to do is to get the correct WWAN card.

This parts list tells you the part number of the required WWAN card, you can get the part from IBM parts. Remember the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and Carbon Touch uses a non standard mPCIe WWAN card.

If your machine is not WWAN upgradeable, then it means you are missing the WWAN antennas. You can get them and install it yourself, but requires disassembling the LCD screen too, which may cause damage to the machine and is not recommended (warranty doesn't cover these self services and resulting damages).

If you are adamant that you are skilled enough to do the WWAN card upgrade, you can study the HMM, which shows you everything that needs to be done for the upgrade.

Doen't look good for adding WWAN Card, I'm really suprised that this machine a 3444-25U can't be upgraded

Note: ThinkPad X1 does not include the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. ThinkPad X1 Carbon does not support a Mobile Broadband WAN Option."
