X1 Carbon 3rd Gen / 20BS : Need SOFTWARE to control keyboard backlight.

2015-08-24, 12:30 PM

As the title says, I need a programmatical/software method to control the keyboard's backlight, in windows.

In linux, I am able to turn OFF the keyboard backlight with...

echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:thinklight/brightness

However, You CANNOT turn it ON.  This does nothing.

echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/tpacpi\:\:thinklight/brightness

In windows, the hotkey utility shows an overlay whenever the backlight is changed.  So messaging IS handled somehow.

Lenovo, we need this functionality.  It is crucial that we have absolute control over our own devices.
FN+Space to turn on a light is NOT enough.

I'm looking for ACPI / WMI / Python / C++  Answers if possible.  Thank you.

This is likely a bios based function and communication is pretty much assured to be completely different from the type/brand of machine you linked to.
