X1 Carbon 3rd Gen with OneLink+ dock - problem with 2 external monitors

2018-08-03, 9:47 AM

Hello everybody,

i am posting here because i really went through the whole www and still i have this issue, which is the following:

My configuration is:

X1 Carbon 3rd Gen (Windows 10 64bit)

OneLink+ docking

2 x ThinkVision P27q-10 monitors.

The problem:

When i connect both monitors to the dock, i get only one running / working.

The only way I get both monitors working is if i connect the second one on my miniDP port directly on the laptop. And in this configuration i can have all three monitors working (laptop display + 2 external)

Obviously i want to have them both connected on the docking station and use it properly.

Thanks in advance for any solutions / suggestions.

Dean

Hi DeanKocevski, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

The OneLink Pro dock can't drive two monitors at WQHD resolution.

I'm assuming that IS a OneLink Pro dock you have there, because the OneLink+ dock is not compatible with the X1 Carbon 3rd Gen.

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Hi bananaman

Thanks for the reply.

Actually i am using the OnLink+ with the adapter for legacy hardware.

Anyway i found out that the monitors should be compatible as well and play around with cabling (you cannot have 2x DP etc.)

Ah OK I'd forgotten about that dongle. There's a nice Lenovo support page here which lists all the docks and their video configurations. Hope it's working for you.

Hi Dean,

Did you have any luck with this configuration in the end ?

I am about to purchase OneLink+ and the legacy harware adapter in order to connect two 2560x1440 DELL monitors 25 to my X1 Carbon 3 gen and wondering if that is actually going to be feasible.

Thanks,

Lech
