X1 Carbon 4th gen - some keys don't work

Several keys in my mother's 6 month old X1 Carbon 4th Generation are no longer working (Q/W/E/N). This is a Windows 10 64 bit machine. The problem, when first encountered, seemed to last a couple of days and would go away. Now however, it has been a week and the keys are still not working.

She has had to resort to using the on-screen keyboard to log in to the machine since some of those characters are in her Windows password.

I've had her downloaded and run a Lenovo Solution Center scan that run for 12 hours and gave the following message:

final Result Code: W1CKMFDU8-9735T2

Any ideas how to interpret this code?

I've had her try all the keyboard troubleshooting tips to no avail and would welcome any insight.

Is the machine under warranty?  That code is most likely just the SSD, which often yield funny codes when doing a smart test.  My guess is the keyboard is failing.

The laptop is under warranty. I'm guessing I could also have her update the BIOS or Synaptics driver to see if that resolves the issue before sending it in for service.
