X1 Carbon 5th Generation - Left Button Not Working Sometimes

Hi everyone,

Avid user of the Thinkpad Carbon line here and really hoping this issue can be resolved - I've recently been having trouble using the left mouse click button on the 5th gen x1 carbon. Sometimes when I press to click on it, it doesn't register the click as well as it used to. Even when slighly pushing up against with my index finger, the button begins to make janky noises as if there was something wrong with it.

The right mouse click button has had no issue so far which makes sense since I've primarily used the left click button during most of my work sessions. Just trying to understand whether there's a hardware fix for this available using Lenovo or third party services? Would really like to know since I enjoy using this machine for both work and leisure.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th Generation - Left Button Not Working Sometimes

Is there a fix for this? My Carbon is brand new, and the left click button is driving me crazy. It randomly only wants to register if I hit it hard multiple times on the far left side, which is awkward when using the pointing device. And my space bar has suddenly started randomly activating page down. Sometimes it will page down; sometimes only using the scroll bar will work. It seems that if I use the space button several times, then the left click button works better.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th Generation - Left Button Not Working Sometimes

Hi pzptoo!

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Try to press the left click button and space bar multiple times again. If same issue, do a power drain by removing all connected devices (ac adapter, USB flash drive, etc.), shut it down and hold down the power button for 60 seconds. Turn it back on after a few minutes and observe. If issue persists, we recommend contacting our technical support at https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/contactus?linkTrack=homepage:c1:r2:contact_us for repair.

Regards,
