Yes - it's definitely not easy to get it recognised - but yo would think once you do it would actually work and have a half decent signal.  This is supposed to be a business laptop after all.  As usual we are beta testers.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th gen - Sierra EM7455 WWAN - SIM not recognised

I hot-removed my sim card that used to work and now my x1 wouldn't recognize this sim (and another) no matter what I do. The netsh output was originally:

==============================

Device capability information for interface Cellular:
-------------------------------------------------------
Device type : This is a remote device
Cellular class : GSM
Voice class : No voice
Sim class : SIM is removable
Data class : UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE
GSM band class : Unknown
SMS capability : PDU receive, PDU send
Control capability : Manual network selection is allowed
USSD support available
Device Id : 014582007312581
Manufacturer : Sierra Wireless, Incorporated
Model : Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm
Firmware Information : SWI9X30C_02.24.03.00
Maximum activation contexts : 8

==============================

I tried installing the latest firmware from Sierra, and now it's:

==============================

I basically tried everything mentioned on this thread. My SIM is of Google's project Fi's, and I also tried another T-mobile sim, and neither worked.

So apparently even the firmware trick doesn't work on me. Not sure if it's because I'm using a newer firmware version.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th gen - Sierra EM7455 WWAN - SIM not recognised

Hello, Makoto0205

Try to power off the laptop completely:
- enter BIOS Setup
- disable internal battery
- laptop will power off itself
- unplug the charger
- wait a couple of minuts

Also you might press the power button and it hold during 20...30 seconds. In this case the good action is to load default BIOS settings (F9), apply your ones if you had them..

Insert the sim card while the laptop is powered off, plug the charger, boot the laptop, test the wwan feature.

No luck. Cleared BIOS, tried multiple times with ~5 minutes of powering off, with various comibinations with shift+shutdown, etc, none worked.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th gen - Sierra EM7455 WWAN - SIM not recognised

To make sure the SIM card is recognized by the wwan modem, perform the following actions:
- open the command prompt window (cmd)
- type in and execute the following string
netsh mbn sh read int=*

In case everything is OK you'll get subscriber ID and the SIM card ICCID. Do not post them here, just confirm.

Re: X1 Carbon 5th gen - Sierra EM7455 WWAN - SIM not recognised

I had similar problems with my X1 Carbon 5th gen.  Replaced the sim card multiple times, and it never worked.  I called lenovo and they told me that it was a software problem and wanted me to pay a one time fee of 70 dollars to fix the software related issue.  I started from a clean install and immediately disabled windows from downloading driver updates via group policy editor.  Installed all of the lenovo drivers with the companion app and everything worked just fine.  My celluar card is reliable now.

updating the firmware to my telco provider for EM7430 solved the "insert SIM" issue for me
