Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Battery drain in sleep

I've got the exact same situation here with my x1y3. I just want to state my concern that this notebook is not really usable due to the energy problems...

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Battery drain in sleep

a new bios version (1.30) is out with a new option "Sleep State" which can be switched to Linux.

There is a special warning "Windows 10 (R) must be used with Windows 10 setting only".

Nevertheless, i am using a dual boot setup and i just enabled this setting -> full working good old s3 support under linux. Thanks a lot for that!

Under windows suspend/resume also seems to be working fine and i didn't encounter any side effects. Where can i lookup under windows if s3 or modern standby is used?

Since i have a dual boot setup and i am starting windows using the grub boot loader -> the side effects could be handled by grub and do not occur.

Please be careful and make a backup, since there is no info about the side effects.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Battery drain in sleep

It's little bit too early to say if everything is good, but it seems that S3 is back with the cmd powercfg /a

I switched the Sleep setting to "Linux" in the BIOS and I'm running Windows 10 straight.

Oh yeah, Lenovo, you did it!!!

S3 is back if you switch to Linux. Si03 is disabled. Thanks everyone! Up to now no drawbacks for me.  By the way: no Windows reinstall, not even a change in the registry was neccesary! Smiley Wink

If you don't see the update, you may update it manually (Make sure that your machine type belongs to one of two below).

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Battery drain in sleep

I updated through the website

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Download the BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 20KH, 20KG) v1.30

Be sure that the selected product is X1G6 on the top of the page

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Battery drain in sleep

In Windows

I found a couple of problems with the S3 sleep state (linux option) with bios 1.30

1. Much slower to sleep/wake up

2. Fingerprint reader only works if you hit power button first

3.  WWAN does not connect up on waking up

-in fact - it triggers this problem straight up "Please enter an APN" and does not connect.

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-6th-Gen-WWAN-SIM-not-detected/m-p/4...

4. It makes sound with microSD card "inserted" i.e. dropbox dialogue opens up to say do you want to backup photos every tiem it wakes up (no big deal)

... like normal S3 I would say.

2. Fingerprint reader only works if you hit power button first

... works for me if I resume by hitting the Fn key, too.
