X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

Just received my X1 with the optional Fibocom L850-GL.

initially, selecting a SIM was available under Network and Internet settings.

After various system updates and Lenovo Vantage install, that option is no longer available.

the modem does not display under Systems information.

I thought it was the drivers, so I updated the last driver....nothing

I returned the computer to it's factory configuration.....nothing

I opened the back and verify the modem is there.

waiting for the tech guys to get in on Monday to see what's up.

Hi mprimo, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

Try the emergency reset button?

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

just switch to PC from being a Mac guy for the last decade.  Had an IBM Netvista so I figured I'd keep it in the family.

Have no idea what that is....LOL.  I'm so used to Macs just working as advertised out of the box.  I gave up the HDR display for this single feature.  Love the computer, would be a shame to take it back.

There's a nice PDF user manual on the support site.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

Hi mprimo,

Would you try following procedure?

 1. Open Network ICON in taskbar and click "Airplane mode" and enable it.

 2. Restart Windows.

 3. Open Network ICON in taskbar and click "Airplane mode" and disable it.

I'm not sure, but some WWAN card changes firmware along with inserted Career SIM and if firmware update is incomplete in some reason, WWAN card doesn't work.   Enabling Airplane mode makes network connection disable and firmware update process may be resumed.

Thanks.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

Does the wwan modem's virtual network adapter persist in Windows Device Manager, (Network Adapters category)?

x220 • Gobi 2000 3g | hdd, msata ssd, wwan, wifi, gps -- unique hand-made config
ThinkPad 25 Special Anniversary Edition. #retro. Signed by D.Hill
T470p | X1 Carbon Gen3 | Miix 2 10" | Yoga Tablet 2-1050F (Android) + BT Keyboard
ThinkPad Stack • 2.4/5 Wireless Router, HDD 1 TB, BT Speaker, Power Bank, Mobile Projector

Do it well, worse becomes itself

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

same thing happened to me on my new t480 with fibocom 850.  after tried almost everything, i realised that latest 850 update driver also updated the firmware of the card, which now from fibocom 850 card became intel xmm7360 wwan card.

the new intel card is listed in the system components not in the network as was fibocom listed previous. also even if the card is properly installed, it disappeared from all windows connections settings. (basically even if it's there as wwan card, windows doesn't see it as wwan).

i guess the solution is to wait a new firmware update from lenovo that will fix this crap.

thanx again lenovo for ruining brand new laptops.....

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen Fibocom modem issues (USA model)

You are wrong

Under device manager, your Fibocom card should be shown both as fibocom modem under network device, and intel xmm7360 under system device, as well as fibocom gnns sensor under sensors.

Fibocom modem need a software emulator to establish the communication between the modem USB port and the mother board for WWAN data. After firmware update, it damaged the communcation port, thus, your system takes this as  losing the WWAN card.

This is a common problem, you should call Lenovo support for a replacement fibocom modem card.

I returned my computer for a new one.  For me, it was the logic board.  Everything is great now.
