Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen: Synaptics Touchpad Firmware Update broke Touchpad and Trackpoint

No, I can't.

There no Touchpad detected anymore and there is no "Thinkpad" tab.

The new Trackpoint Firmware Update (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-X-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-X1-CARBON-6TH-GEN-TYPE-20KH-20KG/downloads/DS505654)

Also fails to detect a trackpoint.

When I look at the crazy X1 6th Gen firmware update list I get the feeling that Lenovo simply shipped an untested machine.

There's no "ThinkPad"-tab available under mouse properties for me neither...

Also, the firmware update released November 07 gives the following error:

Fail to enter Transparent mode.

Prior to failing, a box flashes on the screen in what I believe is my cmd position, but it's too fast to make out clearly.

This is what it looks like:

It then kicks me back to the first screen and loops until I exit.

Have you tried booting into Windows failsafe or boot into diagnostics (Press F10 during post aka Lenovo logo at start), to try if the touchpad/trackpoint works there.

Yes.

The devices are also gone under Linux.

Then it only leaves hardware, get the motherboard replaced under warranty if you havent already done that.

I thought so too. I am waiting since two weeks, because Lenovo isn't able to provide the replacement parts.

Do you see Synaptics  pointing/ touch pad device and HID-complaint mouse  in device manager? It must be in "Human interface Device" and "Mice and other pointing device" tag. If you find it, try to update the driver. After that, try to Full shutdown by shift + shutdown if it can be recoverred.

Yes.
These devices appear if you reinstall the UltraNav driver (I think it doesn't matter if there is a Touchapd/Trackpoint present).

The shift+shutdown didn't fix it for me.
