Easy solution: go to register (regedit), change a key "csenabled " to disable mordern standby. Then you will get all the power options back as well as advanced settings. Yet, balanced works similar to (high performance) , you have to use "power saver" to keep CPU clock low when idle. Cons: CPU will rarely hit highest clock speed.

guys, i think is a a common issue now. any of you hear electrical current noise when plugging in? i used thought this is normal for PC but then when i change to another brand this is not the case.  plus, if we try to minimize the performance of this CPU what is the point of using the 8th generation?

You are totally wrong. We are not minimizing this CPU, we are minimizing idle CPU clock such that it can run at better speed when needed. If it runs 4.1 GHz at idle, it is already warm and easily get hot. Thus, when you really do something, thermal kicks in and you can never have highest performance. This 8 gen CPU only act like 8 gen when idle but no better when really doing a job, because of such idle setting.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen fan always on

I'm seeing the same behavior that others have described -- fan running loudly when plugged in.  In addition, I find the fan always continues to run for several minutes after I put the computer to sleep, and often I find the fan running when I pick it up in the morning after it has been (presumably) sleeping all night.  Haven't observed this behavior before in any laptop -- anyone else seeing this?

Combined with periodically dropping bluetooth (ugh), probably going to send this one back...

I have the same issue here. Got my X1 yesterday and just installed drivers and chrome. The fan is only nearly the full time using the X1 when surfing on a website. Furthermore the battery drops realy fast... Im sitting on 72% after 30 - 45 minutes of browsing with 31% screen brightness. It should be 8+ hours with those settings and usage.

Sorry Lenovo, but when im spending 1.6k € on an ultrabook, this is not acceptable. I will return the book when the replacement from another company arrives.

*edit*

I checked for every possbile update with update assistant and vantage but there are non. I have the current 1.13 BIOS... This product ist flawed and it seems to be a regular case. Gonna stick to the MacPro then :/

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Gen fan always on

I have the same problems. Fan is more or less always on when plugged in. CPU speed up around 3.8 GHz while I'm idle with only a few browser tabs open. It never seems to clock down for some reason? However, if I unplug the power it clocks down at once to under 1 GHz and then plugging it back in again gets it up to 3.8...

Please fix this Lenovo or I will have to return my system.

I had the same problem with my 6th gen X1C.  What is happening is that when plugged in, the power profile that Lenovo set is just like "Maximum Performance", so the CPU is running full speed all the time.  And since Windows 1709 dumbing down of power profiles, our beloved Lenovo laptops aren't doing what they should and throttling back the CPU when idle.

I don't suggest using the csenabled registry key as that disables sleep totally on my X1C.

There's just no easy way to fix the power profile ourselves, so we'll have to wait for a fix from Lenovo, *or*, we can reinstall Windows and that works just fine.  After reinstall, the Microsoft power profiles work just as expected.

May you provide further guidance on reinstalling Windows? Is there an easy way to do this?

Is a pretty good description on how to reinstall Windows.
