X1 Carbon 6th Generation with 40A9 Thinkpad USB Dock External Monitors Flashing

We have a X1 Carbon 6th Generation with 40A9 Thinkpad USB Dock. The monitors will randomly flicker for 1 - 2 seconds. Other times it'll flash so much that the computer has to be rebooted

Tried the following

-Send back to depot. They replaced system board and issue persists

-Ran Lenovo firmware updates - issue persists

-Tried a suggestion from a Lenovo forum to Enable Thunderbolt BIOS Assist Mode and reboot then disable and reboot

Has anyone else had this issue and if so are there any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: X1 Carbon 6th Generation with 40A9 Thinkpad USB Dock External Monitors Flashing

Hi, I'll chip in with some experience with flashing monitors. My one is from a TB3 dock with 3 monitors but maybe it gives you a hint.

  • Try change cable (you probably already tried this obvious one)
  • Change display frequency from 59hz to 60hz or vice versa. (advanced properties on your display)
  • Of course, latest and greatest video drivers from your model here on Lenovo
  • Resetting the Windows Display subsystem: SHIFT+CTRL+WIN+B (monitors go black for 1-2 seconds)

Brgs,
