I only tested when it was plugged in for an hour. However, I was doing some heavy task work so I can't say. I'll update you once I do. Let us know your results as well once you test too!

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

My unit was sent back to Lenovo for repair at their cost. I haven't received it back yet. So I probably will not end up applying this patch. I assume, based on what I'm reading here, that Lenovo will be doing that, but I am not sure why, if the fix was this simple, they'd have wanted to pay to have the unit overnighted to their repair people. Why wouldn't they have instructed me to try this first, expecially if they have a bulletin out on it? Mystifying.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

Does anybody else's X1C 6 keep returning to the lock screen every single time the display is turned off? I keep my settings on so that the display shuts down after 5 minutes of no use. It's convenient while I study and use the laptop to read textbooks. It's annoying to have to re-login every time instead of just returning back to where I was. I'm linking these videos to show the issue. Keep in mind I have the same settings for both these videos.

In the first video, I have the screen turn off after one minute. After a few seconds of the screen turning off, you can see that the PC instead goes to sleep-I think... (You can see this by the "microphone mute" key on the keyboard backlight indicator turning off, and by the power button beginning to blink as though it were in sleep mode.) Therefore, whenever I wake it back up by pressing a key on the keyboard or touching the trackpad, it pops up with the lock screen instead of waking the screen back to the desktop.

In the second video, I allow the laptop to turn the screen off (with the same exact settings applied as in the first video) but I immediately the touchpad before it seems to go to sleep (Note how the microphone mute key doesn't turn off, as well as the power button light remaining on). It shows the desktop just like it's supposed to.

Additionally, I see no other options for power management for "High-performance" or "battery saver". When I go into my advanced power settings, it doesn't show me additional settings that I see on my other PCs around my house like "Processor power management" etc.

Unrelated- but I had the issue with the 203 fan making a lot of high pitched noise, so I returned my laptop to costco and got a new one, which still had the 203 fan. HOWEVER, it acts as the 204 fan and doesn't have any sound whatsoever.

I've contacted Lenovo about an issue with my trackpad which is self-explanatory by watching the video. It makes a clicking sound as I press to click on both sides of the trackpad. It's an intermittent issue, but is very annoying. They shipped me a box and I'm going to send it in to get it fixed. A couple of days ago, I noticed a dent in my laptop. It's located right underneath the "Ctrl" key and you can see it here and here. Should I call them back and update them that I found the dent? Will Lenovo replace my machine with a new one because of it?

Anyone know how I may be able to get the laptop to not enter the lock screen unless I've put the laptop to sleep? I'd still want the display to go off though.

That did not work and even worse I can not upload a copy of the image here getting another error. I took a picture of error message form screen and tried to upload it via iPhone but keep getting an error message here that image does not have a valid extension for an attachment and has been removed. Why does everything Windows related have so many problems and headaches..? All it is is a freakin picture and I can not upload it here either. **bleep**..?

For your power options: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/specify-custom-active-power-plan-windows
The dent is normal. I have that under my control key as well. I think it rises to balance the top of the keys to the trackpad level so the laptop doesn't push down on the keys when you close your laptop. As for your sleep mode issue, I'm not sure for a solution but I find the sleep mode quite frustrating for me as well. I would put my laptop to sleep and the display just turns right back on after on the log-in screen, which I don't want.

I also recommend you start a new thread on the sleep mode issue. Maybe others can see the title and help.

Haha, I don't mean the design of the keyboard in which it's purposefully placed lower than the rest of the surface. If you look closely, there is a small indentation right under the control key. The photo doesn't do it justice, but if you look closely, it is visible.

This was listed as solved while that link did not work for me. I got an error message. Tried to upload screenshot of it here and that did not work either. Forum mods please check why JPEG images can not be uploaded on here from iPhone.

For some reason your C:\windows\system32 doesn't seem to be in the PATH env variable hence it can't execute files that are stored there.

Just change your working directory to C:\windows\system32 and prior to executing those commands.

Just execute this command to do so:

cd \windows\System32
