Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

I don't know how Lenovo could sell a laptop and have there be a luck of the draw situation. This is ridiculous.

They don't even have tech support on here monitoring these issues cause they got our money already.

The "coil whine" noise was only noticeable at charging.
Anyone knows how could I revise my post after days?

Re:X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

I've been experiencing this problem for over a year since I bought this laptop back in April of 2019. I hoped firmware updates would resolve the issue, nope. I even tried undervolting my CPU and that hasn't helped either. When I posted a review to Lenovo's site on this product, they removed the review. I assume because I gave it 3 stars related to this insane fan noise. I wish I could back to my old Asus laptop which was fine, just a bit older and bulky on account of being a 17". I had heard so many great things about Thinkpads over the years, but this will be my one and only Lenova purchase EVER.

If anyone has some reasonable steps to resolve this on Linux (Ubuntu 20 LTS) please let me know. It gets annoying hearing this laptop roar from across the room when I have virtually no processes running on it.

Re:X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

Hi Guys.

Bought a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen7 December 2019, just before Christmas.

Lightning fast. Great machine.

Here is my setup (See pictures) :

Logitech K840 wired Keyboard connected to the Dell D3100 Docking Station.

Logitech G604 Mouse, dong connected to the laptop.

3 Dell 24inches monitors DVI to HDMI.

2 monitors connected to Dell D3100 Docking Station and

    1 directly to the laptop.

1 WD Passport 1Tb external drive connected to the Dell D3100 Docking Station.

Laptop connected to the Dell D3100 Docking Station : cable is USB-A to which I connected a USB-A to USB-C adaptor to the Thunderbolt output.

Laptop is powered directly by the power supply provided with the laptop, so no, it is not the docking station that supply electricity to the laptop.

Powered Amp Speakers are connected with a Extension Cable 3.5mm to the Dell D3100 Docking Station.

A Logitech C920 is connected to the Dell D3100 Docking Station.

And naturally, RJ45 cable to a 1 GB switch connect to the internet.

Never had a problem before an I never heard the fan for any reason.

Warranty ended on 2020-12-09.

Fan started acting weird on 2020-12-10.

What a coincidence.

Yesterday I tried the DOS commands you presented.

Didn't do anything.

Fan is still RPM gone.

So if anybody have another idea, I'll be waiting.

Thanks guys.

Hi guys.

Is there anybody that know what the default values and command (syntaxes) for those commands ?

I would like to put those to what they were before I started the test.

This doesn't work for me, fan has to work when it should and it doesn't anymore.

Here what I did according to what people posted on that thread. :

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setACvalueindex SCHEME_BALANCED SUB_PROCESSOR PERFEPP 33

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setACvalueindex OVERLAY_SCHEME_MIN SUB_PROCESSOR PERFEPP 60

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setactive scheme_current
