Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

Ooo, since I decided not to undervolt mine or use thermal paste, I bought a cooling pad (less than 20 dollars). It brings my temps down significantly when idle + connected to my GPU (dropped form 65-70 to 55-60). When I am using heavy CPU or GPU, my temps are around 85, only a 3-7 C drop.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

I would like to direct your attention to this thread.

I believe this bug may be the cause of the problem (or at the very least, is exacerbating the problem).

(Note) Do not downgrade BIOS to the version before 1.13 with the Fibocom L850-GL WWAN device
because system may not work properly.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

The bug is not fixed in any version yet. However, you could try disabling Thunderbolt in the UEFI settings. I make no promises, but if disabling Thunderbolt resolves the issue for you, then my patch should solve the problem permanently once they apply it and release the next firmware update.

I can't disable Thunderbolt as I am using Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock. How do I apply your patch? Is it possible to reverse it?

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

maybe there’s some malware or virus on your machine that’s running a coinminer in the b/g?

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

I just got my new Thinkpad X1 Carbon and this evening them fans ave not stopped running. Anyone here buy an external fan that seemed to help? I just checked on Amazon for fans. What is the best laptop fan that will definitely cool down your laptop to where the internal fan will not need to run?
