Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

What I’ve told you to do does exactly the same thing that Lenovo support has mentioned as the solution.

Lenovo’s solution is incomplete as it didn’t include the base path of C:\windows\System32 I’ve merely fixed that for you.

I cannot say whether Lenovo’s solution will crash your laptop as I don’t work for them, but others here have had successes so I wouldn’t worry.

It definitely works. My laptop is quiet when idle. I left my laptop on the whole day to test. I was able to get 8 hours on my i7, HDR display model on 'Better Battery' Mode. That's really good!

Tried all modes. Results: Fans are DEAD silent on 'better battery' and 'best battery performance.' The fans occasionally turn on 'Best performance' but it's pretty quiet as well. These are all idle to running a few tabs on chrome.

EDIT: Once I test on AC power, I'll let you guys know

Best way to tell is to play a YouTube video and open a few tabs on a site like investing.com that streams stocks and indexes

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

just try the solution that BrianSu posted and Lenovo also posted. It won't mess up your computer. You can always change it back if you don't like it.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

Thanks and yes just to re-iterate they both do the same thing. It's just that Lenovo's doesn't include the full path and thus won't work for some people.

From your screenshot, I think there are some unexpected spaces before the command.  It may be a problem of copy-and-paste.

Can you try manually typing "powercfg.exe /L" and post a screenshot of that?  This will tell us if powercfg actually works on your computer, or not.

Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen : Fan Noise

No the cases are reversed that’s why.

Try these:

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setACvalueindex SCHEME_BALANCED SUB_PROCESSOR PERFEPP 33

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setACvalueindex OVERLAY_SCHEME_MIN SUB_PROCESSOR PERFEPP 60

C:\Windows\system32\powercfg.exe /setactive scheme_current

I’ve now edited this to what you need based on your error screenshot.
