Hello,

yes. The Samsung 860 Evo M.2 SSD will work in your laptop.

See HMM on page 71:

Thank you for the link to that PDF. What does "FRU" mean? The manual goes straight into "Strategy for replacing FRUs" without explaining what "FRU" stands for.

FRU stands for Field Replacement Unit, as explained here:

Betreff: X1 Carbon 6th gen - upgrade harddrive

Hi Sardun,
I have a X1 carbon 6th gen, product number 20KHCTO1WW.
I would like to upgrade my harddrive to 512GB or 1TB.
However I am a bit confused. The Samsung 860 evo, that you confirm it will work, it's a SATA M.2 SSD.
However Windows 10 and HDDScan tool detect an NVMe controller on my laptop.
I understand pin configuration for a SATA M.2 it's different from a NVMe M.2.
Please tell me, which one my X1 will work with?

Per the base spec X1C6 supports either:

http://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20X1%20Carbon%20(6th%20Gen)/ThinkPad_X1_Ca...

One of the following, configurable by model:
• M.2 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s (e.g. xxxGB SSD M.2)
• M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s (e.g. xxxGB SSD M.2 PCIe NVMe)

Z.
