Re: X1 Carbon 7th Gen Temperature Issues

Hi All,

I have a X1 Carbon 7th Gen with Intel i7-10710U, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Pro.

I used Core Temp to check the temperatures. They touch the Tj. Max(100 degree C) under the following usage.

4K video on youtube, 1 Excel Sheet, 1 Powerpoint, Checking update on Lenovo Vantage.

I don't think this usage scenario is so dire that it should force a top of the line Intel CPU to hit Tj. Max.

Is this a issue of X1 Carbon as a whole ? Is there any better app to check temperature than Core Temp ?

P.S. - I bought a 8th gen intel X1 Carbon couple of months back and faced the same issue and hence I returned it.

Re: X1 Carbon 7th Gen Temperature Issues

Hi !

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Try to check the same mesurement after Lenovo Vantage finish checking updates, you may also perform a clean boot where it starts with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your laptop. Refer to this link.

Hence, if you're not able to touch the bottom part of the machine when it hits the Tj Max (overheating) it's possible that issue is likely to be hardware related.

Regards,

Re:X1 Carbon 7th Gen Temperature Issues

CoreTemp can not recongnized i7-10710U

so if you use it,the cpu usage will be High.

you can use AIDA64 or open hardware monitor to see CPU tempurature.

X1 Carbon 7th Gen Temperature Issues

I have the same issue with My new X1 Carbon 7th Gen with Intel i7-10710U, 16 GB RAM, 1T SSD, Windows 10 Pro. I only open a browser and download adobe PDF reader, and nothing else is running in the background. Two of the core heat up to 97C. Is it possible it might be the the CPU problem? I am going to return it and maybe get another one with a different processor.

Re:X1 Carbon 7th Gen Temperature Issues

Won't matter. The laptops are thin and the cooling techniques are not adequate.

I bought two X1 Carbons 7th Gen and both have same issues. I reapplied thermal paste,

but the heatsink isn't good enough so the temperature remained same.

Your best bet is to use "Better Performance" or lower power mode in windows 10.

This will throttle the CPU (lower performance), but at-least the temps will be lower.
