X1 Carbon 7th Gen: Won't wake up from sleep

2019-10-30, 2:16 AM

X1 Carbon 7th Gen won't wake up from sleep when everything is updated with no hardware issues. Tech support said it's a software issue and apparently they can't help me cause the 1 year warrenty only covers hardware. So unless I purchase the software warrenty I'm stuck.

I haven't purchased a laptop in a long time and I finally purchased one cause I'm a college student and I spent 1440 on what I think was the best laptop that will last me 5-7 years after all the great reviews. I only used it like 8 times doing research and typing essays so I feel ripped off and I can't return it cause it's been 60 days. Is there really no other way for me to fix this issue by myself?

It is not software issue. It will even happen on a live usb. Get replacement.

I tested the system by changing it to never sleep, restoring it to default, made sure everything is updated for Windows and Lenovo Vantage and had the system sleep for at least 10 mins before trying to wake it up but the result is the same.

Also, the battery seems to be heating up a bit when it was sleeping. Had it charging one time which I put the system to sleep and before I myself slept I unplugged the power plug (not the adapter though which was connected to the laptop still) and when I woke up in the morning the battery was drained.

Hello,

Go to Control Panel-> Hardware and sound->Power Options->Selected plan. Could you try to change that power plan to Balanced or other plan have a check ?

Please observe that screen and power LED of state when fail to wake up .

Please provide the Graphics driver and BIOS version . Thanks!

Power light continues to blink when failed to wake up. Tried Balanced plan also, but same results.
Graphics driver: 26.20.100.6911
BIOS version N2HET40W 1.23

I'm also having this issue on a 7th gen X1 Carbon. It wakes from sleep 95% of the time okay, but once in a while the screen won't turn on and keyboard seems unresponsive. The only thing I notice is the power LED blinking on and off. After holding power for a while the machine powers off. Once I restart Windows restores everything I had before restarting, so the machine seems to be saving its state before whatever goes wrong.

My power plan is on Balanced and I haven't made any modifications from the defaults in terms of power settings.

I have the same problem with my 6th gen X1 carbon.   When it goes to sleep it does not wake up.  The power light blinks and I have to hold the power button down for 10 seconds to reset the machine, then the machine turns on normally but of course all my open programs are lost.  This is really fustrating.

I have already had to replace the motherboard once because it would no longer charge and now this!!!!

I have updated with lenovo vantage and windows update.    I ran a hardware scan from lenovo vantage and no problems were found.

Bios version is N23ET68W 1.43

It is a serious problem never knowing if your machine is suddenly going to loose all the work you are doing.

My new X1 Gen 7 seems to have this exact issue.  Instantly flashes a "lock" screen and shuts down with power light flashing rapidly.  Only solution is to hold power button and restart.  Put warranty ticket in with Lenovo and recieved conformation email.  No contact or call for over a week.  Called warranty department, gave case number and was told they didn't have record of it, but would transfer me to open new case... then hung up!  Case shows up on "MTSA" managed tech support website.  Beyond frustrating for a machine of this price and supposed quality.
