Re: X1 Carbon 7th Generation Touchpad

2019-11-06, 9:51 AM

That is sad. My only issue is the touchpad, and it is not made by ELAN - that was my mistake, ELAN is actually the trackpoint. The touchpad just shows as HID-compliant touch pad with a driver from 21/06/2006 in Windows 10 Device Manager??!

In the BIOS, the mouse does not exhibit the same behaviour where it disables touchpad functionality shortly after clicking one of the mouse buttons. So this is definetly a driver thing. I will call lenovo today, as we are actually resellers. I can't recommend this device to customers who use the touchpad and travela lot (these are the target market for this laptop -right Lenovo?).

HI Rabid Hanuman,

We never have Elan touchpad on 7th Gen X1 carbon, does you mention the Elan TrackPoint? And the button above the touchpad is not the button for touchpad but TrackPoint. Using touchpad with touchpad button (bottom area of clickpad) could improve your symptom.

Hi Mai, yes as I mentioned this was a mistake. I can see it is actually a Synaptics?

Anyway the touchpad is also disabled/delayed briefly when clicking the built-in buttons on the touchpad, so there is definetly an issue.

I've noticed this too since we have the new 7th gen models in. We use sccm OSD deployment with the sccm driverpacks.

After imaging the touchpad driver is NOT installed and a manual windows update is required to obtain the drivers.

This is a no-go for sites that use a offline imaging environment.

Hello, is there any update on this?

The issue is very annoying and makes using the touchpad a real pain.

Hi RabidHanuman,
I have the same issue what you have described. I wonder whether you found any solution to this lagging (?) issue after clicking.

I opened a new thread for this issue, so far no suggestions.

HI Bardil,

No unfortunately there is no solution as of yet and I doubt that there will be one because Lenovo does not see this as an issue, further up the thread they told me to use the touchpad in-built buttons instead. Lenovo doesn't seem to care about the customers who buy their premium products. I am selling T490's T480's etc. every day, and their touchpad works fine with both button above the touchpad and those below. This really sucks lenovo. You are giving your customers the middle finger.

Just chiming-in, I have the same issue. I just got my X1c gen 7 and have this exact issue.

Have searched and cannot find a solution.

I don't understand how anyone at Lenovo/Microsoft thought this was reasonable, it is crazy annoying and happens all-the-time!

I'm not having some of the problems others noted, but it is disturbing to find so many features we have always expected to find on a premium laptop are missing.  The loss of the "flick" feature and other scrolling features impact the execution of my workflow.  It would be encouraging if someone from Lenovo indicated that restoring this features set was being worked on.
