X1 Carbon 7th gen speaker problem

Hello

I bought the new X1 Carbon 7th and it arrived 2 weeks ago. When I watch movies or listen to music, I always have the feeling that to top speakers don't work (or are very quiet?) and the bottom speakers sound like you would expect: loud and clear.

Now my question is: is there a way to test top and bottom speakers seperatly? Because when I put my ear against it i just hear "the whole laptop" and can't figure out if the top speakers are very quiet, broken or even fine (But i doubt that, just can't confirm).

I read about the bottom being subwoofers and the top speakers tweeters, but the bottom still gives more higher sounds than the top speakers.

Is there someone else who expierences the same difference between the speakers in sound?

Re: X1 Carbon 7th gen speaker problem

I have this problem too.

I can't tell if thats the way it should be or not, but it feels like the top speakers are producing no sound at all.

Would anyone be able to help?

Re: X1 Carbon 7th gen speaker problem

I decided to check on this since I saw this thread... I too believe my top speakers don't produce any noise / sound on my X1C7. Would not have noticed without this thread I don't think... the sound that comes from the bottom is quite impressive.

EDIT:

According to the manual, they should definitely be speakers:

Didn't want to make an assumption Smiley Happy

EDIT EDIT:

Ok, so maybe they do play very certain sounds. At about the 2:50 mark, the bird sounds appear to come through the top speakers... it's not much but it's something:

And some other sounds like raindrops... but honestly I'm not even 100% certain, so much sound comes from the bottom speakers.

EDIT EDIT EDIT:

I do think this satellite portion of the clip for sure comes through the top speakers:

Heads up, there is definitely some validity to this thread... I didn't even notice until I tried to look for it, but the top speakers definitely do not produce any sound that I can tell:

Anyone else have sound when they put their ear by the speaker? I tried playing with the Dolby Atmos application for the speakers (including turning off Dolby Atmos), but so far nothin'.

Huh, I have yoga X1 4th generation, and wouldn't have guessed this. But I get the same issue, cannot hear the top speaker. Anyone figure out how to test this? I tried playing movies that should have dolby atmos, but no luck. Any suggestions?

I made an update, there is one YouTube video I found that *may* be producing sound, but it's hard to tell... I added it to my post in the other thread, but it's the same link here:

@CarbonUser:

even if one can hear on that ONE specific youtube video, isn't it still a problem in that 99.9% of what you do (that has sound) does not come out from the much heralded top speakers?  every reviewer and user has said that:  oh wow, the sound on the X1C7 is SO much better than the previous X1 Carbons!!  oh wow oh wow...etc.

And now, several good folks here cannot hear a thing coming from their top speakers!   even if ONE VIDEO has sound that sort of/kind of comes out from the top speakers, isn't it still a huge problem in that NONE of any of the other media sources produce a single beep out of those top speakers?

While my X1C7 hasn't yet arrived, ordered but not yet arrived, this has me concerned about their quality control, yet again.

Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2019 edition

I actually think since so many people are experiencing it, it may be by design. Keep in mind a couple of us didn't even notice until we looked for it, that's how good the bottom speakers are. So possibly the top speakers are just strategic color to the sound... I'm not sure. And if not, seems likely it could be resolved through software as it does seem SOME sound comes through them at this point.

Would be nice to get some clarification on this, in the meantime if more users can check their machines as they come in.. that could help!

Re: ThinkPad X series shipping thread - 2019 edition

I agree, I had no idea there was an issue until I read it here. I couldn't believe how great the sound quality was. Like the link I posted to the Dolby site, the speakers are working but I think as an enhancement to the main speakers on the bottom.

Re: X1 Carbon 7th gen speaker problem

Try this video, even being compressed on YouTube, I was able to hear all of the speakers very well. Pretty amazing what the little speakers add when you are sitting back and listening to the computer as a whole.
