X1 Carbon 8th Gen eSIM

2021-02-23, 13:35 PM

I have a X1 Carbon 8th Gen - Type 20U9 laptop with a Fibocom L850-GL modem.

The problem is that the laptop does not have a slot for a classic SIM card.

I have an esim card from the operator, but there is no option to use esim in Windows. In Settings> Network & Internet> Cellular there is no link to the esim configuration. The operating system is Windows 10 Pro in the 20H2 edition and the modem driver is version 10.0.19041.789

Some ideas?

Thank you
Milan

That's not a WWAN-upgradable system That's why it is not configured for WWAN, as you have described, starting with missing SIM slot, antennas, and WWAN card. WWAN-upgradable systems have a SIM slot and antennas.
USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.

Hello MilanL,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

The 20U9 model would have different variants.

I suggest that you share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant.

No WWAN card or WWAN antenna listed in the as-built parts list for that one. That's also consistent with the lack of a SIM card slot.

Yes, but I bought the wwan card from an authorized Lenovo shop. The fact that it does not have a laptop SIM card slot should not matter, I want to use it.

That's not good news for me ... Do you think there is no way to get a wwan card and esim into laptop?

I would never say never, as someone with enough time, money, and practical inclination may be able to do it, but it would be easier to buy a model already configured for WWAN.
