X1 Carbon 9th Gen - trackpad only works with two fingers

Heya,

tech support guy here and I just got a user with a Lenovo X1 Carbon 9th Gen with a trackpad issue that recently occurred. So previously the trackpad worked normally, as she could move around the cursor with one finger, but at some point, this stopped working and the user suddenly had to use two fingers just to move the cursor.

Already helped out the user by, resetting trackpad settings, uninstalling mouse driver then restarting to reinstall, and pushing lenovo system update but still no luck. It's just weird as I don't see any setting that will restrict cursor movement to only two fingers. Was wondering if someone here already encountered this issue. Would appreciate any help I can get.

Hello woggadogga,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

I suggest that you reload the BIOS default settings, be sure to save.
Confirm that you have the latest BIOS, drivers and firmware thru the support site, update if necessary.
Have you tried to disable-enable the touchpad to refresh the settings?

Kindly check the user guide (page 13).
Observe and update us how it goes.

X1 Carbon 9th Gen - trackpad only works with two fingers

I have the same issue. What I noticed is that the driver for the ELAN track point device was updated today to 31.21.18.2 from 31.21.16.2. Lenovo needs to fix this issue. I am not sure how to roll back the driver but that would be the easiest fix.

@longhorn1127 You have an ELAN TrackPoint issue, please start a new thread, as the OP's issue is with the TouchPad. Thanks

Do you still have this TouchPad finger issue?

If yes, can you try downloading testing tool DigiInfo.exe from Simultaneous pen and touch validation | Microsoft Docs ?

And let us know how many fingers does your TouchPad module detects in ActualCount column in DigiInfo.exe?

same issue. it only detects when using 2 or more.

its a bigger issue i have a t14s gen 2

I have the same issue with the X1 carbon gen 9, only started this behaviour in the last few days. And today, strangely, after 30 minutes of only being able to touchpad mouse with 2 fingers, the single finger ability came back.

Exact same issue here, just started today out of the blue. Touchpad only works with two fingers. It is very odd. Thinkpad T14s Gen 2

I had the exact same experience this evening out of the blue. Tried uninstall driver / remove device / restart all to no avail. Then spontaneously resolved after about 15 minutes. Go figure!?! (X1 Carbon Gen 9)
