X1 Carbon Audio Stuttering / High DPC Latency

2017-12-04, 15:39 PM

Good morning,

We recently purchased 25 Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 5's.  All of them have been experiencing significant issues that we've been unable to resolve.

We've tried updating to Winver 1709, downloading all the most recent patches from Lenovo, changing every conceivable setting on the BIOS, disabling every system device, etc.  Nothing helps.

Attached is a screenshot of DPC latency on a fully patched machine.

Has anyone else with an X1 experienced this and do you have any ideas?

If nothing else, is there anyone out there with an X1 carbon Gen 5 that can confirm they aren't having this problem?  Or can someone @ Lenovo pull one of the Gen 5 w/ same specs off the shelf to see if they can replicate?

Does anyone @Lenovo even look at this stuff or is this just a black hole they send people to?

I spent over $35k on laptops with this company, paid $200 for premium support, and still can't get someone on the phone that'll do more than tell me to re-install drivers for the umpteenth time.

If you've got these kind of errors in the services text I can only imagine how sloppy the driver is written.  FYI, when I delete the conexant driver this latency drops significantly.  Still have issues, but I suspect this isn't localized to your audio driver.

We ultimately re-installed the Conexant driver but disabled the Conexant Services:

Conexant Audio Message Service

Conexant SmartAudio service

CxUtilSvc

This dropped our latency & CPU spikes significantly but we're still experiencing major static.  We do not see this same behavior on same spec HP 840's & Dell 5470 Machines (i5 processor, 8gb memory, 256 SSD), same application, same network, same base image, same windows version.

We really wanted to move to "the maserati of business laptops" but now I'm stuck with a bunch of these that I can't deploy to users.

My Config:  X1C5 I7-7500U 16GB 1TB WQHD WIN PRO 10 (not yet running fall creators update).

No RED spikes running dpclat program, but close.   I've been playing back USB audio and its pretty solid.

What app are you experiencing drop outs?

It's everything. Do you have the Conexant audio driver ?

Yes, Smart audio HD version 8.66.76.56 dated 9/29/2017.

What app is dropping audio?

Check out this app to get a better idea of what device is causing latency:
