Hello community

after fighting with this issue for over a month now, I hope that someone in this forum can help me resolve it! 

The trackpad of my X1 Carbon G6 (20KHCTO1WW) is not working properly. Whenever touching it, there is a small delay before the trackpad starts working. This issue does nonetheless affect the workflow massively. After releasing the finger from the trackpad and touching it again, the delay occurs again, so basically no fast movements with the cursur can be made.

Also it affects the ability to e.g. left / or right click by tapping on the trackpad - as the trackpad does not even recognize the fast tapping. 

Summing up, the trackpad is not usable at all.

What I have done so far:

1) When I first learned about this issue, I simply rebooted my device. Interestingly, after rebooting, the cursur seems to work flawlessly for a while. After shutting the system down and rebooting after a couple of hours, the issue was there again.

2) I installed the latest synaptics drivers from the lenovo website (version 19.3.4.201) - after installing the driver and rebooting the system, the issue seemed resolved, but after booting on the next day, the issue was there again (see point 1).

3) of course my system is updated with the latest windows updates.

4) also I have installed lenovo vantage and have made several update- and hardware scans.

What I haven't done so far:

a) I am not sure if the reason for the issue could be ether i) norton internet security or ii) bitlocker hdd encryption - before going through the process of unstalling and unencrypt my device I wanted to ask for advise in this forum what other possible reasons the issue could have!

I played around a little bit, interestingly the problem dissapeared for now.

What I did, I changed the energy options of the laptop:

- when closing the laptop, the pc does not shut hibernate any more, instead it goes to energy saving mode.

> because of security reasons I originally set the settings that the system would hibernate when closing the laptop. this would empty the ram and the system would ask for bios password when opening the laptop again.

interestingly after performing such a routine, the problem seemed to happen more often.

- now, when I close the laptop, the system only goes energy saving mode. after opening the laptop, only the windows screen will pop up and ask for a windows password.

I don't know if this was the reason, but for my system it seems to work now.  

I have the problem too on a brand new laptop. I read if you use an external monitor you would not experience the problem.

Currently, I am testing this and it seems that works. Try using an external monitor and see if your problem still exists...

Had the same problem.

Trackpad is working fine, what actually is happening is that the display is not refreshing, which gives the false impression the mouse or keyboard is not working.

This is caused by over agressive optimization by Intel Display Driver. 

To disable it right click anywhere on the desktop, then go to "Intel Graphics Settings" -> "Power" -> Disable all four options (Power Saving, Refresh Rate Switching ect).

Here same issue on 2 X1 Carbons G6.

When doing 2 finger-scrolling there is some delay/stop several times.

I did find many people with this issue on several threads.

For me still no solution.

Tried:

• Update all drivers/firmware/bios
• Disable the Synaptics service
• Re-attach the touchpad
• Disable all Energy-saving options.

The same scroll-action on an external mouse will work fine.

Anybody with a full solution for this?
