Why don't you just claim warranty on the laptop? I claimed that the battery was faulty and they replaced it for me.
I have warranty but they require me to send it in, meaning I'd be without it for at least a couple of weeks. That's a no-go for me -- I have a business I need it for daily. Can't be without for weeks, let alone days.
Warranty be **bleep**ed, I'm tech savvy enough always having built my own computers back in the day and just did what others did. Took literally 10 minutes:
1: Disabled battery from BIOS
2 Very carefully opened up laptop (unscrew and pop open with credit card -- DO NOT FORCE and DO NOT use a pry tool or screw driver to pry cover open)
3. Very carefully disconnected battery for a full minute (credit card corner works, don't force), then reconnect
You can find official Lenovo videos for each step above here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht508716
I haven't seen the issue since (it's been 24 hours now). Judging from others and my own experience, this seems to be the solution. No idea why but some update in autumn 2019 is the guilty issue here, in my opinion.
What's really disturbing though is the silence from the Lenovo staff and their refusal to acknowledge the issue here or anywhere publicly and issue a recall on the laptop. One of the most popular forums here for a flagship model product. It's game over in my world when they start pulling that silence garbage. I won't be back -- my last Lenovo product.
Thanks to the many before me who suggested the fix above. It saved me 2-3 more weeks of aggravation dealing with a warranty return for some outsourced kid consultant to pick around my machine, possibly even fully disassembling and needlessly replacing the motherboard
