Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

The problem returned for me after a couple of months without issues. I'm looking at having to open the laptop again to disconnect the battery, see if that works again. Very frustrating.

I got my laptop's battery replaced under warranty for a new one. Likely, it's the battery. I suggest you get a warranty replacement.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will consider it.

Meanwhile opening and disconnecting made the problem subside for now.

Same problem here. X1C7 is going black randomly. This has been going on since I bought it late November 2019. Yesterday it came to a new height though. Going black, restarted going black again within 60 seconds. Several times. Battery level at 80%+. I plugged in AC adaptor but it shut down again. I am in the same boat as many here that this is my work computer and sending it in means I need to get another computer for the meantime so I can continue to work. The lost work efficiency is frustrating and the outlook to send it in and not even getting a real fix is making things worse. I read through the thread and see how individuals deal with this. Just wanted to add another unhappy Lenovo note to the thread. This is a real issue... Prior to getting this X1C7 I was working on a 2009 Macbookpro with Windows 7 and an aftermarket SSD hard drive. I never experienced any problems in the 10 years with that pc until I dropped it from about 3 ft. It still runs but some ventilator is crazy load at time ms now. Still hoping for official solution from Lenovo.

Levono was correct it is indeed a software issue!  I did a disk cleanup deleting all temporary files and it cleared right up.  Give it a shot, you will be happy you did.

I did the cleanup but the system still marks "battery voltage incorrect".

Seems like Lenovo doing nothing on this issue. Really hope they will replace the batteries that cause the problems on our laptop.

Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

Like many, I had the same issues where I would get an error message stating my battery is not of the right specifications (voltage, can not detect... etc). when my battery was being detected, Lenovo vantage was reporting that my Battery has a max capacity of 52 Wh and voltage of 16.xxV. Although, the battery was designed to have a 51Wh and 15.4V. I believed this discrepancy was the reason I was populating the error message.

However, the only solution confirmed on the forum was to detach and reattach the battery, and so I did. Afterwords, my error messages did go away, and my battery seemed to be working fine with no noticeable issued.

I checked lenovo vantage to see the battery's performance and much to my surprise the battery now had a max capacity of 52 Wh and voltage of ***17.45V!!!*** Which is significantly different than the original designed capacity of 15.4Vs. SO im pretty sure the issue will happen again and these error messages of "improper voltage" will repopulate in the future cause another headache.

Im wondering if everyone else is having similar battery statistics, and if those who got their battery replaced by lenovo are also reporting unusual voltages and max capacities. I have a warranty but am not sure if this is worth servicing the laptop for since a lot of people are having the same issues, and it could very well be fixed by a software update.

Thanks for your information. I have also been facing such an issue recently. I am hesitant to fix it by physically disconnecting/connecting the battery, because my laptop is still in warranty. I checked my battery status with AC on, and it showed very similar parameters (voltage is 17.36 V). I feel this issue is so common with x1c gen7, it's really hasseling when my laptop won't boot unless connected to AC.
