Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

Currently letting it idle to 3% or whatever, from 65%. Reset the battery just before this as it jumped to 100% randomly then after a few minutes showed a popup that the battery wasnt detected.

Anyway, BIOS is on the latest one.

I suspect the issue isn't fixed. On the off chance it isn't, does anyone know whether this is limited to Lenovo's software? Or does it occur on a fresh Windows/Linux install from USB without Lenovo's software?

EDIT: Jumped back to 100%. So yay.

Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

I did update the BIOS, the problem, apparently, still occurs.

but guess what? I'm out of warranty, I bought the computer in Turkey and now I'm in Bulgaria.

I don't have the money to repair the computer, and lenovo asks for at least 30EU just for diagnostics.

I ran the diagnostic tool and got results that my battery is in good health.

what I conclude now is that I"m ... well... out of luck on the matter.

on another completely different subject, yesterday the laptop desided that it does not recognize that I have a camera. contacting windows support they informed me there's a known bug.

I'm losing my job now, just because I can't connect to microsoft teams.

great.

Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

So I bought the X1C7 March 2020. And I am

now getting the random shut downs that require me to hold the power button on for a while before reboot With a power manager error. Occasionally blue screen as well. I put a service request and they have sent me a box so they can swap the system board... but it’s been very hard to get any kind of explanation or rationale by phone. Judging by this forum It sounds like I’m about to embark on hell and not see my laptop anytime soon. And likely get a laptop that eventually fails again. so they’re just gonna keep “repairing“ it until I’m out of warranty... Anyone have any new insights or tips? this Is ridiculous.

Sudden loss of battery (X1Carbon 7th)

2020-11-02, 17:48 PM

Hi!

Since a couple of weeks (updates done, hardware search done, restarts done...) I lose power completely when running on battery. 100%, screen goes to power saving mode, the computer shuts down. Sometimes in the middle of video meetings (pain in the buttocks, especially if I chair the meeting). Windows tells me the battery is healthy. What can I do! Attach 2 pictures (in swedish, a warning comes up, probably like: "No battery found. Try to solve the problem by reconnecting to power or exchanging the battery"). Thanks for your time.

Cheers, GeroldForare done

Go to my post here https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/findpost/1301/4620213/5033478 and you'll see others have been successful by very simply (and carefully) removing the bottom cover, physically disconnecting the battery, reconnecting battery and reconnecting cover. Don't forget that before anything to disable the battery from BIOS first before physically disconnecting the battery. The step-by-step instructions are within this thread, although I don't recall which page.

The lack of Lenovo support on this is ridiculous to the point that it will be my last-ever Lenovo device. It clearly should have been a recalled device. Instead they've gone silent with a middle finger up to us customers.

Unfortunate because I've been a X1 Carbon user dating back to the 2nd gen back in 2014 or so.

Hi Johnny,

I want to try the battery disconnect/reconnect you have had sucess with. I found a good video of the procedure (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHOjWRQ_cUY&_ga=2.133483275.426164680.1609428994-293351420.1609428994) but they don't discuss disabling the battery from BIOS. Can you describe the correct procedure for that? This "Incorrect Battery Voltage" and Big Red X is maddening... thanks for your help.

Hi yes, specifically there is a 40-second video on how to do this here:

https://support.lenovo.com/fi/en/solutions/ht508716 -- under "Removal Videos" choose the first one titled "Disable Built-In Battery"

Do that step before opening your X1C to physically disconnect the battery. AFter you do that, don't forget to go back into the BIOS to re-enable.

I also posted here with exactly what I did to fix, no thanks to Lenovo support.: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-7-regularly-mistakes-empty-battery-and-shuts-down/m-p/4561156?page=12#5032918

Good luck and hope this helps!

Re:X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

Hi, same problem for me with bios 1.12 and bios 1.13, not test with 1.14.

today i use this solution : https://askubuntu.com/questions/980490/lenovo-x1-thinkpad-battery-not-charging-in-17-04

Unplug laptop power supply;

insert end of paper clip in small hole on bottom of laptop;

hold for five seconds;

let go; plug laptop back in;

hit power/start button.

i use it every time my laptop don't want to run without power supply connected (because battery not detected).

Pascal / France.
