Re: X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

Have to be honest, battery was just changed out, so I've no way to confirm if disconnecting and connecting the battery would solve the problem. Thanks.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

Hello everyone!

As I promised, I'm telling the final of the story with battary of my X1G7.

I've tried all solutions in this topic, except opening laptop and disconnecting the battery... and had to bring  my laptop to the lenovo representative service.
They have disconnected the battery (this reboots the motherboard) and the problem disappeared. They called me to take my laptop back, because the problem can't be reproduced.

I've downgraded BIOS version to 1.22 to check if the symptoms, which were hidden by new versions of BIOS, will return.

1 week of using the laptop - everything is OK.

This is ridiculous, but so many problems can be fixed so easily AND what is the reasons of those problems - ????

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

hi folks, i think i had the same general issue discussed on this thread (randomly my X1G7 would not detect battery at all, and also had problems with it 'dying' shutting down randomly)  ... I've kept up with all the BIOS updates etc and problem would seem to go away for a bit but then come back (weeks apart).  Last week the laptop stopped charging when plugged in.  Battery would slowly drain over two days and it would not accept a charge.  Not wanting to deal with downtime for warranty repairs etc I decided to just try the advice on this thread which is to disable battery from bios then open the laptop and unplug it.  Took all of about 5 minutes (be careful with the battery plug!) and when I booted it back up the battery re-detected and began charging immediately.

super frustrated that brand newish high end computer has annoying issue like this but am optimistic that the unplug/plug battery step hopefully resolves this ... if I start getting any of the bad behaviors again I will update this thread.

I've been working through a case of this same issue since late last year for the only Gen 7 in our fleet. Laptops shuts off unexpectedly when used without AC power connected. Will usually only start up again after reconnecting to power, at which time there is plenty of battery life reported. Today's instance still had +90% charge remaining.

This case has been dragging on and twice we've had an onsite visit cancelled because there's a newer BIOS to try installing. So we install, and wait again for the problem to occur.

If it's as simple as reconnecting a battery cable inside the unit hopefully a tech will be sent to us very soon to do that.

Re: X1 Carbon Gen 7 regularly mistakes empty battery and shuts down

My X1C7 returned from Lenovo Support Center on last Thursday, and no troubles up to now. Battery is normal, in both Windows and Ubuntu, no symptoms of random (and quick) shutdown which was frequently seen in my previous state.

Lenovo acknowledges my symptom and replaced the battery. This simple solution does things return to normal.

Of course, some treatments mentioned in this thread such as unplugging the battery connector may work. But, according to my experience, I recommend to contact Lenovo support for replacing the battery for more secure solution before your 1-yr warranty is running out.

Hello All,

A BIOS was released which I am informed will resolve the symptoms reported in this thread, sorry for not posting sooner. It can be downloaded from the below linked to site.

BIOS Update (Utility & Bootable CD) for Linux, Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen, X1 Yoga 4th Gen

After updating to that BIOS (i.e. v1.27 /1.13), I still have the same issue... very frustrating...

I don't think this can be fixed with bios/software. This isn't the first time they have claimed to have a software fix - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-Gen-7-regularly-mistakes-empty-battery-and-shuts-down/m-p/4603889/highlight/true#M108727

That 1.26 BIOS fixed it for me. The newer 1.27 is also doing fine - no sudden shut downs.

Can you post some information about your cases please. What BIOS version? What Windows 10 version? Frequency of shutdowns? Can you induce the shutdown - please describe how.
