X1 Carbon Gen 7 touchpad intermittent freezing.

2020-10-12, 4:02 AM

I apologize if this has been addressed already -- I did some light searching and hadn't seen any mention.

Everything on my system is up-to-date thru Vantage but it still seems like after a while the touchpad on this Thinkpad will start freezing.  It seems like it's always on the initial contact with the Touchpad it will lag before responding.  If I continue to hold my finger down it works fine until I lift my finger up and start using it again.

Restarting seems to resolve the issue temporarily, maybe a few hours at most.  After a while the freezing starts back up again.  Any ideas?  I have tried force-quitting all processes from the taskbar as well to no avail.  It's pretty irritating to have to periodically restart to get the touchpad working properly again. I would assume it's not hardware since rebooting resolves it for a while.

Some notes:

-Enhanced Windows Biometric Security is disabled in BIOS

-I've tried resetting the BIOS

-No driver issues in Device Manager

-no updates available in Lenovo Vantage or Windows 10 update.

-Running Win 10 Pro 2004

-No issues with trackpoint, it's only the touchpad.

set screen and sleep times to equal values both for battery and AC. go to battery setting -power and sleep - and make sure the screen time out is exactly the same as sleep time . the problem happens when the screen turn off but not when the laptop go to sleep . *** if screen off time is 5 mins and the sleep time is 30 mins . leave your laptop for 10 mins ( more than 5 and less than 30 mins ) and try to wake it up and you will see the problem . hope this fix our problem and please share your try here !

I'm not certain yet but I think this may have actually resolved the issue! Are you aware if this is documented formally anywhere, either via Lenovo or Microsoft? I'm going to continue to keep an eye on it for the time being...but I will be sure update this thread if it appears to be fully resolved.

X1 Carbon Gen 7 touchpad intermittent freezing.

the problem with new adopted sleep mode (modern sleep ) in our X1 . out x1 enters this mode after screen off immediately so I think they must remove the option for turn off screen and just include modern sleep time . my observation that windows 10 try to turn off screen but the bios put it immediately in modern sleep mode and some problem happens with hardware that doesn't support the old sleep mode like the new touchpad .

Looks like a workaround, but it's so annoying that it's definitely something Lenovo should have fixed
